Tattoo's----what are your personal opinions

I'm with DC. You never know down the road if you will still like it/them. We are always changing our minds. I've thought of one but always think if I will like it years later?
Perhaps if someone could come up with one which fades over time. lol
I guess if someone decides to sport one which cannot be concealed then they have to accept that a certain number of people will prejudge them. Such is life.

I don't care either way, although I'm not entirely sure visible tats would inspire a whole lot of confidence in my profession.

What I do think is interesting about them is that years ago having a tatoo not very common, nor mainstream and I think certain people liked being unique in that regard.

Nowadays, it seems that so many people have them, you are more unique without them.

I wouldn't have one but I really don't care if anyone else gets one. I feel just as long as it can be hidden then its really no big deal.

On a side note, hot chicks with tramp stamps can show me theirs any day :w00t:

My wife works in a "professional" environment (OB/GYN), and 3 of her 9 tattoos are on her forearms, therefore they show any time she has short sleeves on.

It may have lost her some business but we talked about it before she did it and figured, who cares... she'd rather be herself, and if they're going to judge her, then she's rather not have those people as patients anyway... I'll admit that is slightly different than a corporate type professional job where upper management would frown on such a thing or even deny you upward mobility or take your job.... and might be more of a problem if she was trying to work in a big group clinic setting etc... for her it's not a "loss of job" situation... just a "loss of business" if patients decide to go somewhere else, rather than her office.

It probably also depends on your level of interest in tattoos. If you just want one etc. then that's different than someone who loves everything about them and wouldn't mind being/ or is planning on being covered in them. My best friend owns a shop, and me, my wife and all her siblings have multiple tattoos... so we're more into them than the average joe...

In the end, it's always safest to get them somewhere that is easily covered up by the typical dress of your profession.

They have a whole book about "professionals" in white collar jobs who are extremely covered in tattoos. It's a neat little book. Shows 1 page where they're dressed in their typical work outfit (corporate lawyers, doctors, bankers etc.) and then on the next page they're showing off their sleeves etc.

No ink for me, thanks, but I have seen folks bring life to some really beautiful artwork.

I'm reminded of the old adage that God likes some scalps - others he puts hair upon (He must like mine alot :D). If you choose to judge me by that it may speak more of you than of me. Prejudice takes all forms.

This should get you to laugh some.My wife had three i have none. But the funny part is one of my closest Friends owns a tattoo parlor and i actually go there at least once a week to hang out and watch him .Everyone who stops by or is getting a tattoo asks me where do i hide mine.Well i tell them i was covered in tattoo's and my buddy(Sicko trade name) covered them all up with what you see just back to my original skin. The sad part is a lot of them believe me .

On another sad note my closest Friend since we moved to Florida was covered from his head to his toes a full suit i can't begin too tell you the looks he got while we were out doing what ever.He was also featured in many tattoo magazines over the years .He decided he couldn't handle life and July 5th he took his own life .For someone who put up with what people said to him and how they looked at him all covered in tats he would hold up his forearm and he had a tattoo that had the letters F.T.W they didn't understand what it mean't we just laughed.

I still go to the tatoo shows but it isn't the same without my bro Mikey Nice

I have throughly enjoyed reading through everyones posts so far. I am actually shocked by how many people on here have them and I actually want to see what you all have  Tattoo's absolutely fascinate me, especially what people get and why they got the. Sure I have a couple that there was no rhyme or reason behind them. One will be covered, the other may not, just because it is funny and Ive never met another soul to have it. I'll post mine but I dont expect others to do so. I like showing off my work in progress, just because Im proud of it and it actually means a lot to me. Plus im fortunate to have one of the best artist's in the country working on me, both for his freehand and detailing

I was just too scared to get any forearm tattoo's just in case I would end up in the corporate world.

Here was the initial drawing:

This was after one 7.5hr session, I have 4 more long sessions to go.

no tats or piercing for me. my body is a temple. have seen my share of bad tats/piercings in my line of work. i think though i can appreciate the beauty of the nice tats i have seen. i just don't get the piercing craze at all, ugly, leave bad scars. anyway, not my cup of tea but to each his own.

3 types of tattoos I cannot stand!

1) Tribal arm band around a guys bicep or ankle. I love how people who have no connection to Indian heritage yet get these Tribal bands as tattoos so they have an excuse to wear a tanktop!

2) Un-religious people getting religious tattoos!

3) One of those punk looking star tattoos on the wrist to let people how badass you are!

just to add what others have already said, sometimes a first impression is everything, and you may not get a second chance even though you may be a good honest person....

i know what you mean "BRO". alot of people around my neck of the woods have them along with the lame "F" clothing or whatever else there is that makes them look and think they are cool.

"tramp stamp"?! :-t:-t
I know you said that just to get me fired up D:devil:wanyne!

A ramen noodle? Wtf  Do you work at a factory that retreads tires /:)

I had a pair of lips on my neck, but my wife made me remove them. Funny, she thaught they were cute when I first met her @-)

All the rest of mine are concealabale if I wish to :spy:

yes, ramen noodle...I never worked for a tire company of any kind...
And speaking of lipstick tatoo why did your wife made you remove them if she liked it to begin with? you didn't tell her it was lipstick of another woman etched in skin, did you?

No, she just didn't appreciate the unnescecary attention. I understood that, and had it removed

I dont have any and dont care to have any either.

I believe alot of the prejudice/preconceived notions, etc., comes from the fact that a looooong time ago, only Navy guys got tattoos when they were overseas, etc., and they got something usually on their arms.

Then all the convicts in prison started doing their own tattoos, and everyone for some reason, started copying them..

Then all the convicts in prison started shaving their heads and letting their facial hair grow just around a mustache-fu-manchu-type at first and then extended all the way down around the chin and filled in the chin.

I know this is true because I used to counsel an Ex-con back in the late 80's-early 90's, and he had that facial hair thing going on back then. One day I asked him, "Eddie, why do you have your facial hair just around your mouth and chin, and he said all the Con's in prison have been doing this for years now. And he would have known, because he was in and out of prison alot.

So, in the end, if most people associate these things with unfortunately, convicts, then that is where the resistance, etc., might come from.

Oh, by the way, the example I used about Navy guys was my former father-in-law. His Navy tattoo on his arm eventually ended up running all together into a big black outline, and it looked bad. Hope the ink you guys are using now is improved so it doesnt do that, right?

I should have explained why i dont like my tattoo anymore. Its not because I dont like it. It was really beautiful when I first got it . It was a butterfly with lots of pretty colors but then after a few years it started to fade and the colores werent so pretty. I even had it redone and it looked ok for a while .

Then I had it redone into a flower ,bad idea. It came out really nice but he had to make it even bigger and I did not realize how much bigger . So now when I wear a tank top it tends to show a little especially if Im working or moving around .

what happens to tattoos as they age is they fade and get less defined and the colors arent as bright . So now years later it looks like a have a green blob instead of a pretty flower :D

Part of its my fault for not using sunscreen on it .

If i knew in the beginning what it would look like today I NEVER would have gotten one!

BTW for anyone who has never had a tattoo they HURT ! Its like someone taking a sharp razor blade to your skin. I guess thats why most people get drunk before hand

I met these 2 guys who both got tattoos on their neck . One said ""NO FEAR" and the other guys said " NO"

I asked him why he had just the No , and he said he wanted the" NO FEAR" but couldnt tolerate the pain anymore after the NO ......True story !

To those that like them, more power to you. I find them fascinating to look at and to play the guessing game of "I wonder why he/she picked that one?"

The sleeve/full body thing is a beyond my comprehension.

However, I never have had the urge myself or understand it.

I wonder...

How many would put a bumper sticker on your car that could not be removed, would fade and change shape over time, and eventually become a greenish out of focus blob? New technology could remove the sticker but it is very expensive and will leave a scar on the paint that can never be completely eliminated.

Oh btw, you cannot trade in or sell the car but must keep it for the rest of your life.

Most people get tattoos when they are young, as the people and the tattoo get older, the person may age gracefully, but the tattoos not so much.

I may be showing my age, but I've seen plenty of people that are 40 -50 that look great, but tattoos - that's a different matter entirely!
