Tattoo's----what are your personal opinions

My friend brought his 530i over yesterday for a spa-day in my garage. Cosmic black is regular black w/a metallic-reflective sprinkling of who knows in the clearcoat. It's really neat. 95% of the beauty of black w/50% of the upkeep.

Anyway, he washed/dried/clayed and the paint needed some love. AIO just disappeared into it. Like it was drinking it. I took a look at hood w/and w/out AIO. Nice difference.

But I think it could be better. After 3 coats of AIO, he seemed to get to a point that the minor toweling/spiderwebs weren't improving.

What else would you guys reccommend for this paint?

PS-Nothing like knowing detailing is going on upstairs and you're on a conference call at the home office...

Maybe you should try 3M SMR or FI-2. Many on here recommend using it with a PC, but achieved good results using SMR by hand. It does take some practice (puterbum has the best technique) but using the PC is much easier. I removed about 50% of the swirls in my paint which was pretty good because the rest are very light. My car couldnt look better... unless someone wants to send me souveran for free :D .

Oh, get a PC! I became a man today-- I got my PC! CMA pads are on the way (I'm using this thread that barely mentioned the PC as an excuse to share my excitment with the Autopian community! I also got a Mother's Clay Bar at Wal-Mart! Great day today!)

I have worked on a Bimmer with similiar paint, but I'm not sure if it's the exact kind you described. What year is the 530i?

the 530i is 2001 or newer considering the 3.0 litre came out in 2001.

The E39's paint is very soft. Your freind will notice many small swirl and chips after a year or so. I suggest you use a MF, as it may be your best bet at preventing many small spiderwebs and swirls. As for the Cosmos, very nice color, almost more midnight blue then black.

your right, it is like a very dark grey or light blk. In the summer it does not really get anywhere as hot as a flat blk car, but it does not look as good to me though. A flat blk car hides swirls and stuff better than the cosmos color. I have a 98 BMW M3 and my girlfreind says she like a regular blk color, she say's "your car does not shine like a regular blk car". I felt kinda bad after waxing and polishing for months just to hear that. My next ride will be flat blk, it looks better.

You should try applying 2-3 coats of Klasse Sealant Glaze not AIO. The minor toweling/spiderwebs will be filled in by the acrylic sealant and the vechicle will shine like crazy.

It's an 01 model

We've been using the AIO w/MF applicators and buffing towels.

Yes, the paint is soft. They are some chips, that any car is bound to pick up, but they're all really bad ones.

I'll press him to do another coat of AIO and then go SG on top.

Completely random topic here. But i did a school discussion about these awhile back on whether tattoo's should be accepted in the professional environment. We were talking more white collar jobs (I consider detailing to be a blue collar profession, some may disagree with me there, but we are working with out hands and not pushing truckloads of paper ;) ) anyways back on subject. I have six tattoo's but all are easily concealed with a tshirt. I never got any on my forearms/legs/neck because i didnt know if I was going to be in the corporate world or not. Even in this profession if I show up at a clients house that has a big car collection, I wouldnt want any exposed just in case they didnt like/approve of them. Especially here in the Midwest, people frown on visible tattoo's. I think we are a lot more conservative here than either of the coasts.

I just want your opinions of what you guys think, I know there are a lot of older people on here and your views are typically different than mine. You wont offend me in anyway, because both of my parents hate tattoo's :scared: but they will like my work in progress on my side. Its based on my Danish heritage (im 2nd gen danish American)

Personally I could care less if people have tattoos. I have one myself .

But some people will pre judge you for having one esp. a female having one , so I keep mine hidden also .

On a personal note I got mine when I was 18 , over 30 years ago . Now I wish I didnt have it . I always tell people NOT to get tattoos because you may not like them later !

while tattoos are more accepted now as opposed to many years back, there are still alot of people who will judge you by them no matter what. judging a book by it's cover is wrong (got to get to know the person on the inside where it counts), but it's always going to be like that especially when you consider how many different kinds of (conservative) people there are in this world. imagine a old lady/man going to pick up a prescription at the drug store and has a question for the pharmacist and he comes out with tattoo sleeves exposed on his lower arm(s). you know what i mean? some people are going to judge just by appearance alone, there's nothing you can really do...

Im just finishing up college now (to give an age referance) and I personally do not like them. I try hard to not judge the person until I really see what they are like but its hard to not look at someone with multiple tattoos and not have a preconsieved notion about them. I personally feel the problem with them is two fold. One, too many people get them on a whim and donot like them down the road. It gets looked at as something done out of immaturity. Second, a few bad apples (or several) pushed along the stigma in my opinion. Not everyone with a tattoo is a bad person or is someone who slacks off, or lacks forward thinking but there are enough of them that people associate them with lack of forward thinking.

I am not trying to take a jab at anyone or put anyone down but I have had this very discussion with many many people and these seem to be the conclusions of the conversations alot.

They don't bother me. As mentioned above, you are gonna have it forever.

Quick story...A young man working for me (in the service) had a super opportunity to go to OCS. Went out and got a tat that went below his elbow. There went his possible commission. Tats were okay, but not ones that extended below the elbow joint. To bad, was a sharp kid too.

I have one on my upper arm (soon to be all of my upper arm), but I'm with mikeyg, it's totally concealable (sp?). In my line of work (managing an engineering, consulting company), lots of visible tattoos may affect our ability to get projects. And since I've always got my sleeves rolled up or wearing a short sleeve dress shirt, I have limits to what I can do.

I personally really like tattoos and would have more, but they are so damn expensive to get. To each their own, but from what I have seen, visible tattoos really bother some people in a professional environment (not me though)

what's the point of tatoos anyway, maybe I am missing something...
I had a co-worker who had ramen noodle tatooed on his neck...now that's just plain stupid...

A ramen noodle? Wtf  Do you work at a factory that retreads tires /:)

I had a pair of lips on my neck, but my wife made me remove them. Funny, she thaught they were cute when I first met her @-)

All the rest of mine are concealabale if I wish to :spy:

I love 'em! I'm currently in the process of finishing up a large piece on my back - which will make my 9th tattoo - and I have another one planned after that. Only 1 of my tattoos (a smaller one) is visible when wearing a short sleeved shirt.

I'm sure I'd be working on a full sleeve or two by now if my full-time job was more accepting but I think it'd hurt my chances of advancement and future job searches if I did it. So caution rules out - at least for now!

tatoos

I would not have one.

Anyone who wants to markup his or her body has the right to do it and it is
no elses business. Unforturnatley that is not the way of the world. If you care what others think, be careful.

Doesn't bother me a bit...though I think they should be left off the face/head, and probably best left in a location that can be hidden by clothing if need be.

At the end of the day it's their body and I'm not going to judge someone for having them. I only have one on my arm but would like another some day. My sister actually has a full sleeve on one arm.
