Tarminator on Anodized Aluminum to remove Sealant

I am going to polish my anodized aluminum Volk wheels later this morning with Swirl x, since I had great results on with it on these wheels before. I applied KSG to the wheels about 2-3 weeks ago and know I will neeed to remove this before polishing them. I normally use ONR to wash the wheels because it doesn't cause the brake rotors to get all rusty and coat the wheels after driving the car. It also leaves a glossy finish on them compared to traditional washing. Anyways, I was wondering if I could use Stoner's Tarminator to remove the sealant after washing the wheels with ONR? I believe the wheels are clearcoated, but want to make sure the tarminator isn't too strong to damage the finish. I know I could wash the wheels with dawn, but that isn't the preferred method if possible. I don't have any wheel cleaners that are safe for the wheels. I have ARO, but am not 100% sure it is safe or not. Anyways, I just want to know if the tarminator would be safe, or if there are any other ways to remove the wax. Would using a clay bar be a good idea? Will I risk maring or scratching my wheels? Would a liquid clay bar be the best type for this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
 
Personally I would not use tarminator on any wheel, much less alum's..too much chance of spotting if you cannot remove it fast enough, etc..
 
I would advise against the tarminator.



SwirlX should be capable of removing the KSG quite easily as you begin to work it in. Are you using SwirlX on just the lip? If so, I wouldnt worry about it, SwirlX away.



If your set on removing the KSG prior to polishing, go out and pick up a bottle of Megs Wheel Cleaner that is safe for aluminum (the custom 3 piece cleaner, hot wheels, etc. read the label.)
 
Thanks guys. I actually had just planned to wash them and then go straight to swirl x because I thought it was strong enough to remove the KSG. Thanks for confirming this NSXTASY. I just went ahead and did this any they look great! Last time I did this was in April, and was truly amazed! My car is a DD, so you can sort of imagine what they looked like before. Not too bad, but definitely not as good as now. They look better now just after polishing than they did with a coat of KSG. I unfortunately didn't take any before pics since it was so hot and I just wanted to get done. I will try and take so pics tomorrow once everything is done.



Anyways, I had to go to work this morning and only was able to get the lips and wheel face polished on all the wheels. It's ok for me to do an ONR at QD strength wipe down off all the wheels and then polish the inside and brake calipers? I plan on doing this, then following with a coat of KAIO and then a coat of KSG to finish. I plan on doing this within the next hour, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
 
ONR should work fine. ONR rule of thumb: Do not stop "washing" until the surface is clean, ie no dirty water or dirt is on the surface, then dry. If that means you have to rinse your media and wash the panel/surface once twice thrice, so be it.



Tarminator is a pretty strong chemical, so use sparingly and only as a last resort. Spray a rag and dot the problem area, allow to dwell, wipe away. It is great stuff IME/IMO. It is meant for tar/sap/adhesive, not $3K wheel lsp stripper.

^^Thanks. That's how I planned to do it with ONR. I just did a full ONR wash on the wheels last night and didn't drive very far but a few miles, so that's why I am just going to do a QD with the ONR. I actually have no need for the tarminator since I pretty much already accomplished what I wanted without it.
