A friend traded in his car for one with fabric interior.

He gave me his bottle of Tanner's Preserve Leather Conditioner .

I've been using Zaino Z-10 (Leather in a Bottle) for about 2 years, but I thought I'd give the Tanner's a try.

This stuff really SOFTENS the leather. (and you may or may not know that GM does not use the best hides for interior leather!) Product is not shiney. Very nice leather smell. (not as strong as Z-10 scent). Leaves a "sheen" but not a shine. Looks like new leather.

Also, here's what the bottle states:
Tanner's Preserve Leather Conditioning Cream was formulated to put back what time and exposure take out of leather. This easy-to-use cream contains emollients which help restore leather surfaces to a supple, rich luster and keeps these surfaces in a rich, like-new condition. Also, great for use on furniture, clothing, and accessories.

Tanner's Preserve gets a pretty good recommendation from me. I'll be interested in a long-term test of the product....... :yes:

Where to get it??? I don't know. I'll have to do a little research.

Just as a side note..... I always apply leather conditioner with my bare hands. No waste that way, and you can really work it into the leather!

I've used it, I got a bottle of it and the cleaner at Anderson's for $4. It didn't really work too well for me. I've since started using Gold class cleaner/conditioner and it's worked pretty well, I'm looking to get some better stuff soon.
 
i tried megs gold class cleaner/conditioner, i sprayed my leather and gently scrubed the leather and wiped try with mf towel and then buffed it out and i wasn't happy, some parts were clean and others dirty.

then after going through the photo gallery i seen a pic of dons leather seats half clean and the other half as is. i couldn't believe the difference. on the floor i seen a bottle of megs cleaner and tried this usuing the same tecnique as above. a little cleaner,scrub with megs brush wipe with a mf towel and then buff. i applied the conditioner by hand i'm not sure if there other products would be better but i'm very happy with the results for an otc product and readily available.
 
I use the cream, gold class MF applicators, and a leather brush from Autogeek to really get it in deep. IMO the cream works a lot better than the spray because your application method determines how deep the stuff works.
 
I really like the tanner's leather conditioner, I just wish I could find more. The conditioner leaves the leather soft, conditioned, smells like leather and leaves a matte to satin sheen.

It is no doubt a good product, (I used it for a while and still have some of the cleaner), but, there's lots of products that are comparable and a lot easier to get.
4 Star, Zaino, Eagle One, Zymol, Meguiar's, Mother's, Wolfgang, Pinnacle, Connoly, are just a few I can think of right now.

I have nevered used the cleaner and have not been able to find it since K-mart stopped selling tanners.

The finishes used in automotive upholstery leather are unique – much different than furniture, garment or shoe leathers. Automotive leather can typically be cleaned by simply wiping it with a mild soap using a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water every month or so to help prevent dirt and oil from building up. We also suggest that every few months, or every 5,000 miles, you give it an extra cleaning to maintain the leather's durability, resiliency and color.
We suggest the use of Tanner's Preserve Leather Cleaner with a 3M Scotch Brite Pad (#051131-07439). This pad provides just the appropriate amount of abrasion without scratching the leather. Tanner's Preserve Leather Cleaner is available at most automotive supply stores or wherever auto care products are sold. Avoid using any household cleaning products, solvents, or rubber, vinyl and plastic cleaners on leather as they will likely damage the finish. The color and finish of your leather has been painstakingly developed to ensure that your interior will retain its attractive appearance in the rigorous environmental and use conditions of your automobile. Lexol is another brand of cleaner and conditioner that can be used on your steering wheel leather.


Why clean leather?
Leather's surface has natural pores and crevices in which particles of
dirt and other matter can collect. During normal use, getting in and
out of the vehicle, these particles can accumulate and become
abrasive to leather's protective finish. This "sandpaper" effect can
leave the surface unprotected, creating the risk of accelerated wear.
Cleaning the surface regularly will reduce this effect and help prolong
the life of the leather.


How can a conditioner help?
Conditioning leather provides three basic benefits:
Moisturizes the leather to help prevent it from drying out
Provides a physical barrier to help prevent surface soiling and
abrasion. It also adds a degree of gloss to enhance the beauty and appearance of the leather


Automotive leather is typically finished with coatings which protect the
surface from the perils of the sun's damaging rays as well making it
resistant to soiling. A good conditioner, such as Tanner's Preserve
Leather Conditioning Cream, enhances these characteristics, helping
to preserve the appearance and long term durability of the leather
while adding a great leather aroma.

The process is probably fine and they certainly know a lot more about leather than I do, but....
The use of the Scotch Brite Pad kind of turned me away. I don't think I will be using it on my leather. Some of you people can try it and report back.:)

According to the 3m page, the sponges are recommended by Ford, for leather cleaning. 3M's white scrub pads are very mild when compared to a green scrub pad. I have used brush to clean dirty leather before, so a white pad is probably less agressive than the brush.
