going to buy a da polisher. can someone point me to the thread that had all the specs for the different machines? was leaning towards the porter cable 7424 but i see that it only has a side handle. the meg's and the griot's have top handles. is one better than the other? thanks

Autogeek.net has good comparison charts since they sell all three models: Meg's, Griots, and PC XP plus the Flex.

I thought about the 7424 untill I heard about Girot's Garage polisher. Asked Matt at AG.com and he said it is very similar to the PC, however it has that extra little power needed for some applications. It was only an extra $5.00 from the 7424 so I went with it. My big order will be here next Thursday so hopefully I can shed some light for you if the weather permits next week.

I'd buy by power, and even the most powerful machine won't have *too* much IMO. I consider the PC 7424/7336 to be vastly underpowered for polishing vehicles.

I would *not* think much about the handle as I almost always use such polishers without the (vibration-transmitting) handle anyhow.

The good news (IMHO) is there really isn't a wrong answer among the three mainstream buffers out there.

Coupled with the right pad/polish combination the new 7424XP is a great tool. The newest Griot's buffer and the G110v2 are both said to offer more power, but they are both fairly new designs, and the G110 "v1" had some reliability issues. While the 7424XP is also a new product, it is a tried-and-true Porter Cable buffer action mated to a tried-and-true but more powerful DeWalt motor (that is new to the platform).

Of the three, I'd go either Porter Cable for dead reliability or Griot's for their excellent warranty and option for a longer cord.

The Griots looks nice. Ask which machine operates in the smoothest manner and buy that one. The original PC was less than smooth.

The Griot's is no Cyclo, but it's smoother than my PCs.

I bought a flex 3401, owned for a month then sold it. I just didn't find it to be worth it so I purchased the pc 7424xp and I liked it only thing is I bought it used so I was afraid of it breaking down on me and not being able to use the warranty so I sold it. Finally I purchased the griots ver2 polisher and haven't looked back. Great build, power, price tag and warranty. I say its very well worth the price and you will be getting the most for your money. The pc I feel had more vibration making it a little more difficult to control.
