Taking delivery of '08 BMW 135i. initial detail question

Is there a big difference from the regular foam pads and the ccs pads? Most retailers carry the ccs pads but DI only carries the regular which I received

I've never ordered from Detailed Image before.. thanks for the info, gents. Added em to my vendor list.

There isn't a really big difference between the regular and CCS pads. The CCS pads don't load up with polish as fast as the regular pads do, and they do seem to run a bit cooler, but that shouldn't really matter much when used with a DA. The ones you got should work fine.

When's the car going to be delivered??

On Superbee's recommendation I convinced George @ DI to carry foamed wool pads too. Should be in stock soon. No, I have no business relationship with them :p I just talk to them since I spend, well, a butt load with them every year haha. I was actually going to start a thread about how they offer discounted pricing for pro detailers, but was worried it'd be nailed as spam. (since I am such a spammer).

Anyway, mrgoochio, I'm personally awaiting some sweet pics!

I received my car yesterday!! Yikes, they didn't follow my directions properly. The film on the outside of the car was taken off, the passenger side door panel was cleaned up already, half the interior plastic was missing, etc. etc.! What is so hard to follow about 'dont touch the damn car!'??? The car itself is AMAZING and has no faults, but the exterior paint was very dirty and I can already see tons of swirls. I will really need to do a full detail.. Here are two sample pictures of my car from yesterday

Beatimous car indeed.....I think I would have HOUNDED that dealer till they ASSURED you that your request would be adhered to.

Fixable tho.....so get to work and have some fun rubbing your baby:buffing:

That interior is just.... wow..... I don't think I'd ever let anyone sit on it. OMG, what a gorgeous car. Inside and out. More pictures!

Very sweet! It's too bad that they touched it, despite your wishes. But since you have black, you'll be polishing often! Enjoy the car...I'll sit back and be envious since I'm not going to buy one since I don't want to spend that kind of cash yet (going back to the Mazda3 GT).

I am more worried about the black paint :) I also had a black car with a light colored interior. Keeping it clean finally drove me nuts, so I sold it after 2 years. But this was before my autopia days. For some this might work, and it looks fantastic, when clean.

that should look great when you finish, the Lemon interior is awesome, especially on a black car, and you won't see many others like it

Jesus christ, I just spent 6 hours on the following:

rinse

foam

rinse

wash using 2b method

dry

glaze

wax

the car looks spectacular with the products I used

(gilmour foam gun)

(meguiars gold class)

(clearkote red moose machine glaze)

(pinnacle souveran)

but now I can see a BAZZILLION swirls, holograms, and what seems to be what you guys describe as micromarring.

What I don't get is that even if I remove the imperfections with my Flex, the process that I'll have to take after (glazing/waxing) will re-swirl the car.. Are the foam applicator pads I have scratching the car when I'm applying the products or is my buffing swirling the car? I don't think it was my washing because I was paying close attention and it didn't seem to be damaging the paint. As I said before, the car looks spectacular but sunlight totally destroys it

It is impossible to hand wash your car and not introduce new swirls/marring. Just get used to that fact. The best you can do is try to minimize it and fill them with a glaze between polishing.

I know its impossible to not introduce any swirls/marring, but the amount of swirls/marring is far beyond what there should be from what I understand..

Well one might guess there are dealer induced swirls. You have yet to polish it yourself, yes?

Correct, I actually have been awake for at least 48 hours but really had to detail my car.. I've been waiting for 3 months for this car to arrive and got it on Wednesday with no time available except today.. couldn't sleep and started as soon as the sun came out to avoid heat :woohoo: I'll probably live with the swirls until next month when my wax should be dying out a bit and then polish and redo the process..

Can you take sun shots of the swirls?

Mrgoochio, take a few minutes to read Accumulator's non marring wash technique. http://www.autopia.org/forum/detail...accumulator-s-non-marring-wash-technique.html

If you can master his washing techique, you will *greatly* minimize the swirling/marring you'll get from washing. A really good Boars Hair Brush can't be stressed enough. If you buy the right one (Accumulator has a thread on BHB's, too), it can be the most gentle of all the different wash medias.
