I finally got some time off work and was planning on taking my girl to Fla to enjoy the sun and beach at a place my family has in Palm Beach.
Two days before I was to leave some little kid threw a rock at my BMW 3 series hood and put a dent and paint chip in it, its not huge but in my head it is. Since I caught him and had the cops involved I was hoping maybe I could get it fixed, to my surprise the dad wrote me a check for $400 buck almost immediately to have the hood repainted. That meant I couldnt take my car, trip was looking like less fun already.....
I left on the trip taking My girls Honda Accord that I prepped for the trip with a heavy detail day and a coat of nuba over sealant. All went well, the amount of bugs on the trip was insane but they came off in a touch free wash will no ill effects, I dont know why but we don't have them around this area, they are a great thing when you cant or don't want to wash your car yourself. Despite what I heard I didn't find it very hard on my wax (Natty's).
The return trip was going horribly slow through Georgia, we had made it 1241 miles non stop except for gas on the way down but it was looking like that was going to be impossible on the way back. Then one of those things that makes you just stop and say wow, im a lucky guy who shouldn't complain about anything, happened. While in the center lane with a lot less traffic about 2 miles south of Macon Ga I notice a Buick changing lanes directly in front of us, my girl was driving. Not to knock the Southern guys but not many people signal down there so my girl just moved into the far left lane to avoid this guy. As we moved left we both noticed he wasn't stopping in the center lane, he just kept coming. He hit us in the right rear quarter panel, a perfect LAPD PIT maneuver. He was pushing us into the guard rail at 75 MPH, all of this was happening in an instant, I looked towards the driver and couldn't believe what I saw, he was sound asleep, head resting on the window, mouth agape. He didn't wake from the collision, it was our horn that did it. Miraculously we all straightened out without oncoming traffic killing us. He didnt pull over right away, he still didn't know he hit us, the entire drivers side of his car was toast and he didn't notice...... :grrr
We only had to wait on the side of the road for an hour for a cop. That ticked me off more than the accident. On the second busiest travel weekend of the year, 2 miles south of a Major city waiting while trucks came within inches of us at 85 MPH. Oh god im starting to sound like my dad, where is a cop when you need one. There were sure a bunch to write speeding tickets all along the route. :hm
Needless to say the rest of the trip went rather slow, im still kinda freaked just how close we came.
Suddenly the dent on my BMW is no big deal, if your traveling this weekend be careful, this guy fell asleep at 12:30 in the afternoon, not something I would have expected at that time of the day. Keep your eyes open and have a great 4th :wavey
