Ok, so since I've been back from out of town I havn't had a chance to really take any pictures of my first ever use of my new Griot's polisher. By the time I was done on Wednesday I was running around just to get packed up and on our way out the door. So tonight I rewashed the truck and there was good and bad. The good was it went from having this:

The bad was the reflection is definately not crystal clear and sharp. I took a few pictures to hopefully capture what I mean. Sorry for the quality but I just remembered that I had that shop light downstairs this evening.

This one I purposly made blury just so you could see with a little better "clarity" of what I'm talking about with what looks like what I call honeycombing:

Any suggestions on getting rid of this? My process was M105/M205 with IPA wipe down in between each, then M21. Didn't have a chance to put any wax on. So I was thinking of taking the sealant off (need help with that too) and starting back with M205. Since I don't have any major spiderwebs, there shouldn't be any reason to go back to M105. I guess maybe this is considered marring? It's not quite holograms but I've never seen marring up close and personal. Thanks for all the help everyone!!
 
That's what's known as orange peel, and it's a characteristic of today's paint jobs, unfortunately (we've been through long arguments about why something that used to be considered a paint defect, has become pretty much a standard feature). Orange peel can be lessened or eliminated by sanding, but that's not really advisable on a factory paint job.
 
So there really isn't much I can do with the products I have then? This makes me pretty upset :grrr actually, I spent all this $$ to make my truck look like a diamond and this is what I get, a turd? :angry So re-applying M205 won't help any so I might as well put my wax on and call it done. :hairpull Such is my luck.
 
If your daring you would wet sand with 3000 grit paper. Then compound to remove the sanding marks, before polishing and waxing. Wet sanding is not for the faint of heart, esp if you haven't practiced on something you don't care about.






That should give you a taste of what your up against.
 
So it looks like I have 2 options:



1) Find someone/detailer who would be able to take care of this for a nominal fee ($300-400) or

2) Just deal with it, never be fully happy with my truck ever again, and go cry myself asleep



Wow, what a way to start my vacation, finding out that the $350+ in products I spent will never get my truck the way I want it. Pardon me while I go outside and scream bloody murder.
 
Wait!! Like most have posted on here, almost all cars have some form of orange peel. But that doesnt make your truck a turd. I have polished hundreds of cars with orange peel and still made them look beauiful. Swirls, scratches and oxidation is what makes a car hazy. Orange peel doesn't. Also, most orange peel is on horizontal surfaces and not hoods or roofs. Orange peel is a ripple effect in the clear coat, but not a hazing. I can make orange peeled clear just as clear as any clear.



The problem is trying to get what you want out of a two step on your first try. M105 and M205 are a fantastic combo but experience is still needed. To make a car look like a diamond I usually still use atleast three steps. M205 is a very tricky polish also due to the fact that it uses non diminshing abbbrasives. It takes practice and some would suggest even using a final polish such as Ultrafina or Optimum final polish. Also, you didn't mention what pads where used.



Lastly, after polishing to perfection, please steer away from the M21. That sealant is used by most pro's because it lasts and is relatively cheap. You would be pleased to know that there are many waxes and sealants that will give you a much better look.



So take a deap breath, if you only have M205, use the softest pad you have, seach for the jewel step on here and practice. If it makes you feel any better, the last Rolls drophead I did had orange peel and the Maybach stting next to it did too.
 
Wow, thank you Fergnation. I had the TNT all wired up ready to press the button too! :har: But really: I have the LCHT pads, Cyan, Tangerine, and Crimson. I have M105/M205/M21/Natty's Blue wax and access to a walmart! :LOLOL I am up for any and all suggestions as this week the weather is going to be perfect and I have it all off as I'm still on vacation! I'm making a list of things I want to get at walmart/target anyway so please help me spend my money. Eventually I will make an order at AG for something other than M105 (and now M21) as I can't stand M105. I'll do that search as you suggested too. Wow thanks man, you made my horrible past few hours seem hopeful now! I thought I was that 1 of a 100 who's car was made crapy and had to just deal with it. I'm happy again!
 
I better paint sealant would be Ultima Paint Guard Plus, plus its real easy to use.



As for the advice to NEVER touch a dark car with sandpaper...pft. Just practice, practice, practice and use a rotary.

Practice, practice, practice on a scrap panel. If someone isn't a pro who's competent I would recommend not touching a new car with sandpaper-especially someone elses.

Get some Menz 85rd and a black or blue lc pad and do some jeweling. 3m Ultrafina (ultrafine) will also do a geat job.
