System One questions

System 51 / System One APS

I was really looking into buying the System one car care kit from this company seems pretty trustworthy. What do you guys think. Its only $39.51

Prices on System One are falling. Check Ebay and other sites. You can probably get it cheaper elsewhere. This kit used to be $50!

I prefer Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax for $6 at Autozone and M205 (about $27/quart) over the System One equivalents. But their Licorice Tire Dressing is great stuff. Expensive, but great stuff.

As far as being trustworthy goes, they really shafted their customers when they did away with the double-sided pad last year. So, everyone that invested big $$$ in the Edge adaptor now can't get replacement pads. I guess that's not an issue with this kit, though.

I tried it and it worked for me but i prefer the menzerna lineup.

I like Menzerna too, but for me, it's tough to beat M205 when price is considered as well. M205 is like $27/quart, free shipping from Amazon.

People say M205 is a good 'finishing' polish, but it's really a medium-cut polish that finishes well. Unlike many others, I don't use the M105/M205 combo. For me, M105 just tears up the surface too much. M205 with wool cuts just fine for me.

They still do double sided pads, only they are screw in now, not the Edge system. So its more like the double sided wool pad that Meg's sells.

It doesn't fit the Edge adaptor, so anyone that bought one now has a white elephant.

True, you can't use the Edge adapter with the large pads, but you still can with the smaller pads. I mean its not like you have to use System One pads with their polish, you can use any pads you want. Just keep buying Edge pads if you want, they still make them, System One just doesn't use them anymore (new). Probably brought on by 3M buying Edge.

I like the cutting polish. The stuff works nicely with 4 inch orange Edge pads to remove swirls. With a fine pad (70 ppi) the polish leaves a nice gloss although on occasion I've gone straight to wax after an orange or green 6" Edge pad. It also wipes off the paint quite easily when you're finished buffing. There is some dusting, however.

I used to use the wax regularly, but now like Classic Motoring's Blackfire aerosol wax better.

CSI is Tom Horvath's new line. Guess he left the System One company...

Please let me know where I can find an Edge pad with foam on one side and wool on the other, like the S1 pad. I haven't been able to locate any.

I don't know about wool / foam combo's but Edge pads are available.

OK.

I really liked the 'buff and flip' concept, as I never had to put my pad down. Just less chance of it getting dirty. :woohoo:

Found the 4.5 inch pad on closeout...

Amazon.com: System One 4.5 inch Cutting/ Finishing Pad: Automotive

The 6 inch pad seems to still be available at the System One store...

Dual Sided Cutting Pad / Finish Pad 6″ : System 51 / System One APS

3M bought The Edge system and discontinued these sorts of double sided pads. The unique DA foam pads, with a different foam type on either side, have gone the way of the dodo bird too. *sigh*

Thanks, but the 8" is all I use. :(

I think Edge made them custom, as they used to do before 3M bought them (no idea now).

I know you spend a bit on the adapter, but honestly, the double sided adapter for the screw on 8" pad is dirt cheap, like under $5. The new 8" pad has a hex pattern on the other side of the wool pad.

I've used the System One Spray Wax for several years and it's good stuff. The good; sprays on/wipes off easily; leaves finish super-slick; lasts for months; won't stain rubber or vinyl. The only "bad" is it's not my favorite odor.
