Switching to Zaino, should I...

Switching from Zymol to Zaino this weekend. About a month ago I clay'ed my car and waxed it with Zymol.



Do you think I should reclay the car again before switching the Xaino? My plans are;



1. Wash with dish soap

2. Use Z-PC on some trouble areas

3. Use Z-AIO on complete car

4. Three coats for Z-2 Pro with Z6/Z8 wipe downs between coats.



Above sound good?



While on the topic, think I have to stick with Z-7 to wash my car? Or would Meguiars Gold be fine? Maybe with a Z6/Z8 wipe down afterwards?

I wouldn't bother to clay. Between the ZPC and ZAIO that should leave the paint clean.



Any car wash is fine with Zaino.



3 coats max in one day. No need for more. Just touch up with Z8 for more pop.
 
If your car doesn't need to be clayed, then I wouldn't bother.



I would also only use Z6 between coats, and once the polish has cured, then use Z8.



I always use Duragloss soap and it works great with Zaino.



BTW, what color car do you have?

Finished my tub of Zymol and;



1. Didnt want to spent ~$80 (CDN) on a new tub

2. Wanted something that would last, from my reading Zaino should last 4-6 months, not the typical 4-6 weeks for a Carnauba wax

I'm gonna take a wild shot in the dark, and guess that you're in Canada...



Zaino is a fantastic looking sealant that lasts a long time. However, it's not really the best around when it comes to environmental protection. Being in Canada, you need some pretty good stuff to keep your paint protected during those long Canadian winters. If you want to stay with a sealant, I'd recommend Finish Kare High Temp 1000P Synthetic Paste Wax. It gives a similar look to Zaino, lasts as long, and provides *much* better environmental protection. Another good protecting sealant is Ultima Paint Guard Plus.



In the wax department, any flavor of Collinite will give you very good long term protection, too.



Zaino themselves say it's a "show car polish", and that's really what it's best at: looking great for show, but when it comes to protection, there's better alternatives.
 
Save the dish soap for dishes, the precleaner will clean the old wax etc. off fine.



If the Z doesn't protect well enough I can tell you a coat of 845 will. I have a lot of bugs where I live, I put 845 on the front leading surface of our cars. The bugs don't stick to the paint and require scrubbing :scared:.
 
Something to think about if you haven't already picked up your Zaino. I have to agree on it's ability to protect. Having used Zaino for many years I also switched to 845. If it's in the garage most of the time then it won't matter.
 
I use Zaino for my non DD garage queen.

Me thinks Zaino fits this application perfectly.

Please explain this 845 to this n00b.

There are a LOT of bugs in TX as my front valance can confirm this :think:

Ditto. I miss the extremely bright, reflective look of Zaino, but needed more protection. I've also discovered that, 845, applied to a properly prepped and polished surface, can look just as good as many of the expensive boutique waxes.
 
Zaino is easy to apply and remove. Protection is excellent too. I wanted to hit it with the PC so I washed my car ( and its 10 layers of Zaino) with Dawn and even let it presoak in the stuff and water still beads. This takes a waxed car down to its paint with no beading. I like how it gives what same protection to things like vinyl and some rubbers.

Collinite 845 is a liquid wax. I just tried it for the first time a few weeks ago. It is awesome. I applied it with my G110 ... went on and buffed off easily. So far the beading has been nice. I just want something to stand up to the brutal Texas summer.
 
Currently, my Porsche has Zaino on it and it's still holding up over one year (garaged), but still looks really good.



Z-AIO and Z-PC (Z-PC BTW corrects very well given the right pad) work well together and prep for the LSP's of Zaino.



Prior to application of say Z5-Pro, I'll mix up the Z5-Pro with ZFX then lightly spray the finish with Z6, then the pad and apply very very thin. Let it cure fully, remove and repeat up to 3 times. I let it sit for at least 24hrs, then following day, I'll mix up Z2-Pro/ZFX, spray with Z6 and do the same routine.



Once done and cured, a pass with Z8 and it looks fantastic.



Bottom line, find a sealant you'll be hapy with, you have to look at it and it has to please your eyes, not ours!!!

845 is made by collinite and is a liquid wax with good looks, protection and durability for the cost. haven't used it but would imagine that it would release bug guts easier than zaino. i use to use zaino on my garage queen but it was diffucult to clean bug guts off. i no longer use zaino because of this. i have switched to other various waxes/sealants and all release bugs much easier and several of them i think look better. superbee mentioned two of my favorites fk 1000p and upgp.

Yup, for sure. My latest favorite glaze/wax combo is Meg's Show car Glaze with a layer of 845 over it. It really is an amazing look.
 
I do live in Canada, Vancouver BC actually (which has the mildest weather north of the 49th).



I have already outfitted myself with the complete Zaino lineup and I think my wife would kill me if I bought a new lineup.



From reading your comments I am thinking maybe using Collinite 845 as a "winter wax" applied on top of the Zaino. This sound like a good idea?



BTW - both my vehicles are daily driven, garage kept at home, outside during the day at work.

I have also done this. Yummy for sure.



DWG + 845 is also a keeper. I also use AW after a wash so I have the forever beading trucks. :D
