Swirls in SG layer(s)??

Seeking the perfect shine
I fairly recently did a full detail to my car. Back in February, I had the car clayed and buffed at a local detailer. I must say, the car looked AWESOME! Even considering he did not follow all my instructions (like leaving the finish oil-free). However, I went ahead and applied AIO/SG X 3/P21S. The car was able to sit in a garage for 4 days, so the SG had PLENTY of time to cure between layers, and I had ample time to really take my time on the application of my layers.

I've noticed that I have some swirls, now. I'm wondering if it's likely that these scratches are in the SG layer, only...or if you guys think they're in the paint, too. What are the chances that the majority of the micro-marring is only in the sealant layers? I know some of you might say that :showpics , but I don't have any to show, right now.

Would applying an additional layer of SG possibly fill in the swirls (if they're in the sealant, only)?

Thanks, Guys:wavey

Hard to say...I have had marring that was only in the SG, but it's pretty unusual. If it *IS* just in the SG, then more SG will help, but since you've had wax on it, maybe you oughta use AIO again. If the marring is still there after the AIO, then it's in the paint.

I have about 15 layers of SG on my paint and during all of that, I can say with certainity I had micromarring ONLY in the SG twice. All others were in the paint  Exactly as Accumulator says, if AIO doesn't remove it, then its past the layers of SG :( But go with the AIO first and maybe you'll be lucky.I've been experimenting and have found a little bit of 1z MP by hand works great to remove these tiny swirls/marring.

Remember: Always try the mildest solution to a problem first.

In this case, it's SG. If not, try AIO --> swirl remover --> DACP in that order.

Well, from what I've gathered, SMR doesn't have much corrective power....it's mostly filler from what I've heard. That true?

Also, if something has fillers.....will applying AIO take those fillers off my finish? I would assume that it would b/c the fillers would interfere with SG bonding, correct?

Short answer, yes the AIO will remove the fillers in the SMR

xenangel- If you mean Meg's #81, then no, it won't do it. #81 is basically non-abrasive. You need something with some "cut".

Meg's choices include (mild to sorta-strong): #9, #82, #80, #83.

Meg's #80 Speed Glaze is easy to use by hand (easier than #83)and it will remove light marring. Don't worry about the names here ("a glaze that abrades?"; "a polish that's not abrasive?"), Meg's follows their own drummer when it comes to naming products.

It's quite mild, but I would not call it "mostly filler" since these things don't tend to fill all that much.

...and for the 3rd or 4th time in the last two days, I don't know where this bit of info is coming from.... :nixweiss

so, in removing swirls....

What's the order of attack? BTW, I am getting a PC 7424, soon.

Get some polishes with abrasives in them, in varying grades. Meg's (#83, #80, #82) or Menzerna (IP, FP) or PoorBoy's, or 1Z, or or or....

I find that SG is really difficult to remove, even when applied thinly, it takes some elbow grease to remove it which might be causing marring. Here's what I tried.

Apply the SG and let it dry

Buff it off with a clean microfiber towel after misting the towel or car with Sonus. It comes of Soooooo much easier/faster and with very little pressure. Sonus is a bit high, but if you use Klasse, you shouldn't be without it.

I just use the WOO ( Wipe On, Off) method, works just fine for me. I think I was lucky enough to get marring ONLY in the layers of SG twice :(
