Swirls in Red 2001 Miata - Need something stronger than Swirl Buster

Hello folks,

I recently bought a 2001 Mazda Miata LS in Classic Red. The car is in beautiful shape with only 16k miles on the clock. The paint has a nice luster to it, but is completely covered head to toe in pretty significant swirl marks.

I bought some new product to help remove the swirls...Sonus Swirlbuster and the DAS SwirlBuster Pad, with Porter Cable. I went over the trunk lid with two applications of SwirlBuster, wiping off the residue with MF in between...swirls still very much there...I'd say 10-15% improvement.

Here are a couple of snaps of the trunk lid to illustrate:

I'm ready to move up to a more aggressive mix of product and pad since the Swirlbuster and DAS SwirlBuster Pad aren't cutting it. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Sounds like you might need a more aggressive product like Menzerna SIP. Then follow with the swirlbuster polish on a polishing pad.

I wouldn't consider those swirls, I would consider those scratches. If I can see them easily in plain light, without having to use a pinpoint light source then they are scratches, in my opinion.

So yeah, something like SIP with a white pad.

Thanks for your suggestions! The swirls/scratches are only visible when I look at a bright light source (like the sun). In shade or indirect light, they're not visible.

Is a white pad more abrasive than an orange pad?

What about the Menzerna Intensive Polish compared with the Super Intensive Polish? What are the differences? Autogeek has the SIP but it's much more expensive than the IP.

Thanks again!
