SwirlBuster and marring still there. Help.

I have dark grey 2007 BMW 3 series. I have noticed some light marring, most definitely from washing. I have limited options since I live in a complex. Now I found a good hand car wash that is gentle, crappy part is it costs a lot. Oh well.



Anyhow, I bought the Sonus Swirlbuster kit and tried it out today for the first time. I went over the hood and trunk three times at setting 3. Good news, I didn't add any swirls, bad news is I can still see a lot of the marring, micro webbing or whatever you want to call it. Am i doing something wrong? Did I not apply enough pressure? Exactly how long am I supposed to work the polish into the paint within a given area? It only took me about 1 hour to do the hood and trunk three times, did I go to fast? I used the exact motion as specified within the manual. Any help would be appreciated.



I am trying to diminish the marring as much as possible without removing too much of the clear coat. I am going to do myself a favor next time, buy a silver car until I get my own home. Anyone know a good detailer in san diego? I am hesitant to take it to any detailer because most of them are just kids that have been let loose with an orbital. They seem to do more damage.

Try speed 6 and compress the pad a bit. SB is mild and you are not going remove much clear. Look in the regional forum for someone in your area or post in the pro section.

Speed 3 is too low for any correction work, that is only to spread the polish or for applying a glaze or wax. You need to kick it up to 5 or 6 (don't do it with SFX 1). I would not use SFX 1 on the entire car to remove light swirls and webbing as SFX 1 is more for spot treating or for restoring paint that is in really poor condition (e.g. heavy swirls, scratches, and oxidation), your car is new. Instead, for BMW's, you are better off using Menzerna SIP with an orange pad, followed by 106ff or 85RD with a gray pad. I strongly suggest you try Menzerna instead.

Living in SD taking one of Meguiars Saturday classes is one of the best things I believe you could do; I'm sure you could learn new things regardless of skill level.

Oh, I thought you were using SFX 1. Swirlbuster polish is too mild and given that you have a car with a hard clearcoat, even on speed 6, it won't do much at all. Also, it has fillers, which means it might cover up some of the light swirls, but won't necessarily remove them. Definitely Menzerna. BTW, I love Sonus SFX 2 and 3, but they work best on soft clearcoats.
