Mea culpa! When I typed that response I was focused on abrasive content, not fillers or oils. If my brain had been fully engaged the post would have been: “3M’s glazes contain abrasives as well as fillers/oils.� I apologize for having been misleading.

Still not sure we're on the same page, and just to clarify for OUCH . . . 3M PIII Machine Glaze does not contain fillers. IMO, "glaze" is the wrong product name for this stuff, as I tend to think of glazes as containing oils/fillers (as others have mentioned). However, PIII MG is a non-filling swirl mark remover.



(I don't think we're actually disagreeing on anything here; just want to make sure someone doesn't mistake PIII MG as a glaze in the traditional sense of the word.)

Okay guys, we’ve hijacked Bruce’s thread, and it’s probably more my fault than anyone else’s. The bottom line of our OT posts is that you can’t tell what a product is/does just by the name that the manufacturer/vendor puts on it. In this age of marketing we have waxes that contain no wax, polishes that contain no abrasives, and glazes that may or may not contain abrasives or fillers or oils. The only way to tell for sure what a certain product is/does is by using it and actually seeing the results.



The earlier posts seems to indicate that 3M’s Perfect-It III Machine Glaze, ValueGard’s Machine Polish/Swirl Remover, or Einszett’s Paint Polish are the most likely to fill Bruce’s requirements.
 
Try Menzerna Intensive Polish it worked really well for me with a circular polisher although it doesnt work very good by hand

The purpose of my question was to find the ultimate swirl removal. Hiding them is just not what I want to do, as they inevidably return. Detailing my beast is enjoyable yes, but to time consuming form my schedule. Thus Zaino, albeit a little less deep than carnubas, is my shine of choice. I simply don't have the time to do it often.



This winter I had some free time. I removed MOST of the swirls and filled the rest with what ever fillers are in SMR. I did not use and glaze between SMR and ZFX Z2. After three plus coats I began to notice after some micro marring. Then after a few washes more and more began to appear. Being that my wash detail is very good, (or so I think, tow pail method, rinsing my chenelle mit after every section, water sheeting drying method, then blow out the crevice, and finally Z6 with and MFtech or 100% cotton), I am beggining to think it is the fillers in the SMR, that are washing away thus revealing the swirls all over again.



So this is what I want to try next. Swirl removal with no fillers. If such a thing exists then I will be able to test my theory.



I plan to let NY detailer do my car soon, with me working side by side with him and using such a product. This way I surley will learn more and perhaps prove my theory.

SURE!



I plan to let Erich Lapinski do my car. He has done it twice before with stunning results, and he is a Zaino Zealot. NYD does great work but likes to use other products. I would love to attend one of his NYD days! He is a great host I am told! I like Zaino so I decided to go with Erich.



I know Erich's routine so here goes.



1. Wash

2. Clay ( not needed this time as I did it recently)

3. Wash again

4. PI III rubbing compound 05933, buff with 100% cotton (b takes 2-3 hrs to do right

5. PI foam pad polishing glaze 05996 (SMR)

6. Wash with dawn

7. PI hand glaze 05997

8. QD with Z

9. Z2 ZFX, two plus coats with Z6 in between.



All of the above done with a orbital except the hand glaze and Z2, ZFX not sure which pads he'll use, brand new ones I hope.



NO MF towels, they marr Zaino! (at least the ones I have tried)

All 100% cotton real soft. This not to say MF's are not good, just my experience so far.



Step five and seven will be eliminated this time around as I believe, as I stated in this post, they hide swirls through fillers. I do not wish to fill them I want to eliminate them totally. Then I can see in fact if i am re- introducing them with QD or wash details that I THINK is very good. I may be in for a rude awakening.

I plan to experiment with PIII machine glaze in thier place. I have heard it leaves a very good swirl free surface for Zaino to bond with.



I will post pics and results, both initially and long term



Given Erich is so anal and perfectionistic it will be a 12 hour ordeal. Hell, the guy talks to the paint!
