Swirl Marks on Interior Wood

It's a '96 3.2TL. Here's a pic of my center console:

I haven't done anything to the interior yet because I didn't have time since I spent the last weekend detailing the exterior. I'll be doing the interior this coming weekend. I can't wait!!

Are you sure that's not real wood? Because all the wood in Acuras I've seen have been real. They might be coated to all hell, but they're wood. If it's not OEM trim, then it could be fake.

I'm pretty sure. I popped the dash trim out in order to get to the radio and all I saw on the bottom side of the trim was brown plastic. Honda has done a fantastic job faking it!

~One mans opinion / observations~

I think you’ll find its real fake plastic covered wood. I use a (Zymol) cleaner wax or PlasticX

~Hope this helps~

Fake or real is not the issue as most are covered with a "clear" coating.

This coating is what is scratched, not the wood itself.

As noted by "edschwab", I use Menzerna FP and have had great results with it on MB. BMW, Lexus and other coated wood surfaces.

Spritz on some Plexus or a nice QD afterwards and you're done

:up

It is best though to try and rub softly and in the same direction if possible.

I have fake wood with scratches and swirls everywhere, I've only used a MF towel on it, I guess everything scratches even mf

this expresses the importance of using quality towels, many towels can scratch softer materials and interior plastic and wood trim are way softer than clearcoat will ever be.

I always recommend doing a CD test on the towels that serve the job of interior plastic, right before use even.

no two microfiber towels are alike, just test to make sure

Another thing to note is that it isnt necessarly the cloth scratching... but whatever dirt is on there is scratching. If your vehicle is dirty, it doesnt matter how good of a towel you have... if you wipe it on the paint its going to scratch.

Now... some towels do prevent stracthes from their own fibers and from the dirt on the surface better than others...

Hope this makes sense :D

ah yes, but the plushness of the towel helps as well, so having a better towel does help with the dirt, course you shouldn't have dirt on that part of your car

yeah, except I use an industral foam dispenser. you can wash your car better with a capful of Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo and a foam dispenser better than any other way. Instead of using a bucket I use the hose to rinse off my microfiber mini towel (or mitt or microfiber mitt, depending on how dirty the car) after each panel.

The TL, CL, MDX, and TSX do not use real wood. It is simulated. I think the RL uses real wood but I know for sure that the other models do not.
