Swirl free, now for the scratches.

Ok, using the PC I have now fully removed all the swirls. So far I have used Megs Swirl Remover 2.0, then Swirl Free Polish. Then at a later date I used Megs Speed Glaze.

As I said, all the swirls are now gone, however the car still has random, fine scratches. So I am looking for something to use to take these out.

I have considered using Scratch X with a polishing pad on a lowish speed (perhaps 3). I know how you frown on this but I did see one post a while back on here that had good results and on Autopia-Carcare it does actually say it can be applied by hand or DAP.

What other products could I use? I was considering a Menzerna IP then Menzerna FP. Are these products any stronger than the 3 Megs ones that I tried? If not, what else can you suggest?

Menzerna IP is much stronger than the Meg's products you listed. You might also want to give the Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover a try, then follow up with a less abrasive polish such as the Pinnacle Swirl Remover, or the Meguiar's Swirl Free Polish you mentioned.

Where would the IP rate on Megs scale of abrasiveness (1-10)? All 3 that I mentioned are 3, with 1 being the lowest.

Megs fine cut is number 5 on the scale. I would like something a little more abrasive than this.

BUMP! Iâ€â„¢m curious too. Swirls have never been a problem. Though I have a bigger issue with random scratches (workable) and watermarks. No offense to anyone, but IP and DACP have made little if no difference at all - especially on white. To be objective Iâ€â„¢ve used both on all sorts of paints and finishes with no luck. Perhaps my PC skills suck  Iâ€â„¢d like to say itâ€â„¢s user error, but when I use my rotary with 1Z UPP or SFX 1 the blemishes are removed with ease.

Run your finger over them. If you can feel these imperfections they probably cant be removed.

You can try to hide them though.

Wow, where did you find this thread mate? It was posted back in December!!

Anyway, the scratches are no where near that deep. Same sort or severity as the swirls by the looks of it.

Actually Speed Glaze (#80) has a rating of 4 on Megs scale with both Swirl Remover 2.0 (#9) and Swirl Free Polish (#82) both having a 3 rating.

If you can't catch your nail in the scratches, you could give Dual Action Cleaner Polish - DACP (#83) a go - it's rated as a 6 on Megs scale.

From what I understand, ScratchX is roughly equivilent to #80 with the edge being given to #80.

At one time the rating for #80 was acknowledged by Meguiar's as being incorrect; it was more aggressive than indicated. I dunno if they ever changed the rating, but I doubt it.
