Swap Meet Problem

It seems as though I can not add a new thread to the swap meet section of the board. Does anyone else notice this? From the homepage select the "Detail City Swap Meet" section and the "New Thread" button is not there.
 
We had a few member to member deals go bad and I no longer want to subject Detail City or myself to any potential liability resulting from providing a place for members to conduct business.

I left the forum open for viewing as a courtesy to those that already had items for sale or trade. I will be removing that forum from Detail City this weekend.
 
That is disappointing that a few "bad apples" can spoil what was a great service that you provided. :(
But thanks for allowing us to use it & thanks to all those who used it fairly & in good faith :bigups
 
Thanks for the clarification there Dwayne, I figured something was up. Too bad though, I had a handful of very nice products bought and sold through the swap meet. It was a nice feature while it was here but in the end the headache and liability you have had to put up with negates its usefulness.
 
Please i implore you don't get rid of that forum I have used it in the past(your LS is going to good use) and if you put up a waver or something i'm sure you could still use it..

PS i got a lot of good things thought it that i might not have bough and wanted to try.

Hey Dwayne quick question. Will all trading be forebidden on other threads here on DC? I just want to make sure not to post it becuase the things really grow. I understand about why your closing the forum though.

Thats a shame, I have done a couple trades/sales and have had nothing but good experiences with the members of Detail City. :beer
 
Maybe a waiver, and or a folder which requires an invite to get access?

I dont know anytihng about making a website, but there might be a way for other members to "sponsor" newer members, it could also say who that persons sponsor is, and that person would have the ability to lock them out of the trading forum.

Of coarse, we would need to use real names for loggin in, people will know who screwed them in the past.

I dont know anything about the legalities either, but wouldnt putting some responsibility onto the community to protect itself relieve some of the burden of being a business person, and a baby sitter?

I think the structure could be a pyramid thing. Someone higher up on the pyramid gets banned and everyone under him does too.

Or perhaps only have a select few with the ability to have "invite" powers?

Just throwing stuff out there.... i build block houses for a living not this stuff :)

The simple solution is to just eliminate the problem. Dwayne doesn't need the headaches involved with waivers and members sponsoring other members. That just sounds like more work to me.

If members need to sell something bad enough they can sell on eBay. That is what ebay is for.
 
I'm a moderator over on team-integra.net and we are going through some problems with members screwing other members and then having people come crying to the admin staff to fix it. So my suggestion was to just create an eBay forum where members could post links to the products they are trying to sell there instead of selling through the forums. That way if you get ripped off you at least have some recourse through eBay. Its just getting too risky to buy online without some sort of protection these days.
 
I have seen that on another forum as well. I can see too however what a headache that could be. Shame people have to be like that
 
All the deals I have had with other members have been an absolute pleasure, I wish you would reconsider as many members dont have the $$$ to just buy products on a whim and samples give them the opportunity to try new things without spending a fortune. Just to let you know Dwayne, I have purchased numerous products from you and Steve over at Poorboys that I got samples for first and fell in love with :)

I'm sure that Dwayne and Steve appreciate your business but we will not be reconsidering our decision. www.ebay.com is perfect for members that want to sell product samples. They have an automotive section and I think even a detailing or car care section.
