i am going to be heading up the detail dept. for a dealer.

i am going to be in charge of putting orders through for supplies and products.

do any of you have any sites that you deal with ??

i have been on detailking.com and some others, rightlook.com and chemicalguys.com

anyone use their products ??

it would get expensive ordering menzerna and wolfgang by the bottle

any info would be great :getdown

It goes without saying that it's very easy to buy Meguiar's products in bulk. If the dealership has a bodyshop they probably have an open account with one or more distributors that handle the line.

They probably also get regular visits for the vendors' own delivery trucks. Just a phone call or fax and in a day or so you can have as much of anything you want.

There are larger bottles available, 32oz I believe.

I get most of my bulk products from either Meguiar's or Top of the Line.

Almost forgot, I also get a few bulk items from Ardex.

Auto Magic's Triple Seven APC is awesome. Only like 8 bucks per gallon and dilutable up to 1:8. TOL's Bubble Bath is a great car wash soap and is very economical. Auto Magic's Dress-It-Right is a really good dilutable water-based dressing. Hi-Temp's Light Cut Swirl Remover works wonders with a PC or rotary. Auto Magic recently came out with a liquid carnauba wax called Banana Magic. It's not the best out there as you'd expect, but it does a great job considering it's only $21 per gallon.

Hope this helps

Check your local B2B( Business to Business yellow pages) for suppliers , Adrex , Auto Magic , Malco are few that make weekly deliveries , another good place would be your local body shop supply . I get 95% of my bulk Meguiar's products there.

I like Adrex RTU tire dress , Auto Magic clay and everything in the Meguiar's Detailer line is real good and priced right . Good luck :buffing:

Contact David at Optimum He provides products in bulk for Dealers around the united states. He has a cool air gun that you apply tire dressing with.

thanks,

any specific products that you guys would recommend from any of the manufacturer lines ??

Meguiars 80 series products and #21 Polymer sealant, along with their Hyper Dressing. You ought to hit up their site and go through their professional products line-up.

Detailing in a dealership is all about profit. Sure, any business is. But face it, many dealers take it to an extreme, pinching pennies, cutting corners and gouging customers.

Even if your outfit doesn’t operate that way you have to compete against the ones that do. By providing high quality you’ll make your customers happy and keep them coming back but your dealership still needs its margins.

To keep both your customers and your bosses happy you’ll want to run your shop as efficiently as possible. One of the best ways to improve your efficiency is to choose vendors who provide very high levels of service.

A good supplier will do more than just sell you this and that. They’ll sell the products you need, when you need them, with the service and support to back them up. The best ones provide training to help your staff improve quality and productivity.

They’re more than a picture on a web page and an add-to-cart button. They’re the voice on the phone when something goes wrong and the person who drops by with samples and demos. Something like a delivery truck and a person who’ll load the product on to your shelf may sound like no big deal but they’ll free you up to do your job and generate revenue rather than spending your time, money and mental energy “buying stuff.

The current management buzzword is “supply chain management but it mostly means what savvy businesses have always known, let somebody else do the work that doesn’t make you money so you can do the work that does.

It’s worthwhile to work with the body shop lead and see if you can come up with vendors that you both can use. That will help streamline purchasing for you and maximize the incentive for them to serve you better.

well, i guess this "dealer" will be a little different. it is a used car chain and they buy most of their cars from auction. i will be working at the location that "safeties" the cars.

then they will come to me for detailing and then they will be distributed to the other 8 locations ( sales lots )

so sorry if i was not clear on how this detailing dept was going to work. i know the head of the shop and he said whatever supplies i need / recommend he will get me.

i just would like to see what "bulk" suppliers are out there and what they offer !!

thanks again :xyxthumbs

Ah, I see. That makes it high volume production detailing in its truest form. That makes all the stuff about process efficiency and supply chain even more important. You'll be expected to turn out cars that "sell themselves" in minimal time, on razor thin margins.

I'd be looking for local distributors that handle companies like Meguiar's, Auto Wax, 3M, Malco/Presta, etc.

I assume you'll also be handling hardware tools, towels and processes too. Keep in mind that many things that many smaller businesses can't justify like air buffers, monster extractors, water reclamation systems, dispensing/diluting systems, commercial laundry service and such will pay for themselves very quickly in your environment.

yeah, buffers and towels are going to be ordered.

i can't imagine how many of the little things i might forget about, at first at least

limit yourself to 1 general purpose swirl remover and Megs #21 would probably be a good choice LSP due to the size and spreadability

I just had to add Chemical Guy's to this thread. Check out the website or give Paul a call at 310-505-3088. CG has alot to offer. tell Paul "The Wiener Man" sent ya. (lol)

i requested a catalogue from them :2thumbs:

Car-brite is another name that you should look up. I used their products when I was working at a car detailer.Car brites yellow wax is alot like 16 Megs. By the way if I was you I would buy 3M hand glaze for covering up swirls in a pitch. The best way to use it is to apply it with a wet rag and take it off with a clean one. And it will last years and years before you have to buy another bottle. Megs speed glaze is another must have. It pays to fill up your war chest. One time I ordered car brites acid rain remover because I knew that someday I would need it. And low and behold I ended up using it on the same day that I got it, on a Black truck that we were prepping for our car show.Oh and one more thing don't forget to buy rubber gloves for washing cars esp.in the winter.
