Summer Routine Help - Here's what I have!

Hi Everyone -



I've fallen out of the loop somewhat with work, moving, etc. and I'd like to detail my car with the products I have - could some of you give me a hand with layering, etc? Do I apply the products as follows: polishes, sealants, then carnuba? So in this case, either SSR2, or FPII, then FMJ or AIO then Carnuba (for summer)?? Here are my products:



Poorboys SSR2

Poorboys Polish w/Carnuba

Natty's Blue

AIO

Menzerna FMJ

Menzerna FPII (I think)

Blackfire High Gloss Finishing Glaze



Could someone help me with layering of these products and/or a good routine using these products?

It's tough to recommend something without seeing pictures of the paint you are trying to correct. Knowing the type of car and color would also help.



The reason we need that info is because there are literally dozens of combinations of those products that would work. It all depends on the car and the driver.



You seem to be concerned with summer weather. And you should be because extreme temperatures are the sworn nemesis of carnauba waxes. So protection is key. The Menzerna FMJ is the most protective product you have listed, so that should be included at the end of your process. You can top it with Natty's Blue if you like the look, but its up to you. After the FMJ, Natty's is pretty much just for looks.



I'm not sure if Klass AIO underneath the FMJ will help it bond but you could try it. If anything, that combo will add a little more protection. FMJ probably won't bond to a carnauba so the Poorboys Polish w/Carnauba is completely out. Just don't use the AIO on top of the finishing glaze.



SSR 2 is a light/moderate swirl remover. Use this as your first step if you have minor defects such as swirls or spider webbing. Menzerna FPII is also a fine swirl remover. Use this if you have just light defects, or to remove any micro-marring you caused by using the SSR2



I kind of did them in backwards order. Basically the process is to



1.wash

2.clay (you didn't list a clay so I suggest you get one!!)

3.Aggressive polish (SSR 2)

4.Finishing polish (Menz FPII)

5.Fill in remainind defects with a glaze (BF Finishing Glaze)

6.Top with a sealant, carnauba, or both (Natty's, FMJ)
 
Where does AIO fit in to a routine with polishes/Waxes? Can I layer AIO over the polishes, but just not the finishing glaze? I just want to understand why this is the case.

AIO, in my routine anyway, is used just before my LSP. I consider it as the final step in my paint prep following my polish routine. I suppose you could layer AIO, but that would seem to be counter-productive since AIO is a cleaner and really offers limited protection. Polishes themselves don't layer, so it would be easiest to do one pass of AIO on the vehicle then head to your LSP. AIO would remove any finishing glaze, so you would likely use it after AIO, but I'm not sure how well the sealants would bond with a layer of glaze in between. Product compatibility can be fickle at times...
 
MatrixXRS - let me get this straight..... If I were to incorporate AIO with polishes, I could actually start with (for example) a poorboys SSR2, move to a less abrasive polish, THEN I could use AIO in between my next product - either a sealant or carnuba (or carnuba topping sealant).



I just thought that AIO would be the product I start with and put polishes on top of it...I thought it would remove any polishes that I applied.



Lastly, if you can apply it over polishes, why can you top polishes with AIO but you cant top a finishing glaze with AIO?

You're almost there...Let me explain in a little more detail.



Polishes aren't products that can be layered. They remove surface defects from the paint, but do not offer any protection. AIO would then be used after all polishing steps to prep the paint for your LSP (FMJ, for instance). Most AIO's have a chemical cleaning component that will clean the paint (but not remove surface defects) so that the LSP will properly bond to the paint. The reason a glaze can not be used before AIO is that the glaze would be removed by the cleaners in the product therefore eliminating the benefit of the glaze in the first place.
