Suggestions on Backing plate and pads for 7424

I have a PC 7424 and need advice on what backing plate and pads I should purchase. I will be using the Menzerna Twins on a 2004Black Ram QC. Also, where is the best place to purchase these from. Thanks!

I suggest the Sonus DAS pad kit from Autopia. This kit pretty much covers everything you need and I like the pad design more than any of the others I have tried. The only time I use something else is when I'm doing serious compounding work. The regular flat pads seem to cake up extremely fast when using a thick compound like 3M RC, so I opt for my Lake Country Variable Contact yellow cutting pads and then move back to the Sonus pads for the rest.

The Sonus DAS kit comes with the proper backingplate and everything. The only thing you might want to do is buy a couple extra green polishing pads since you will use this one the most.

Pretty much all of them. The only time I don't use the green pad is when I try to do serious defect removal (major swirls, deep scratches, heavily oxidzed paint, etc. For these I grab the orange pad) or applying glazes and sealants (this is done with the blue and/or grey pad). Other than that, everything gets done with the green pad. I usually use two to three green pads and one to two blue or grey pads per detail.

When you say you use two to three green pads per detail, is that for different grades of polishes, or due you simply chew them up because of your energy? :)

Oh no, it's because of various products. One green pad is good enough for one product, unless you use WAY too much product.

When I say that I use 2-3 green pads and 1-2 of the others, this is with a FULL detail. Of course, maintenance washes and a fresh coat of EX or something only ever takes one green pad and 1-2 blue/grey pads at the most.

I've been keen to use my Sonus pads, but the Sonus backing plate was defective and made the firm Sonus pads bounce too much.

I've been using LC VC and Megs pads in the meantime. I just received a replacement backing plate from ACC, so I'm keen to try the Sonus pads since they're spoken of so highly by all.

I still like the LC VC orange pad that I've been using. There's something unique in the way it cuts defects out. The reduced contact area seems to apply more cutting pressure to the paint, and it cakes less.

When I tried the Sonus orange pad (before I stopped because of the vibration) with the 3M polishes, it seemed to cake/glue too much. The LC was my savior.

The VC pads are also a must when working on complex curvacious body shapes (cars, not girls :lol), like classic jags, etc. They seem to *hug* the body and create less dusting because of reduced pad lift.
