Stronger Scratch Removal....

Hi,

I have no problem with removing swirls, (SSR2.5 and DAS Orange/Green and I used SFX-1 and SFX-2 pads) - None of them removed the Scratches to my satisfaction.

I used SSR2.5 on speed 5 and 6, slowly with all of the pads.

None of the scratches are very severe. Just annoying. I've gone over these areas many times now. I just don't want to keep doing this and wear down the CC too much (over polish), so I need stronger products that do this more efficiently. This is by PC only.



Other than a different machine or wetsanding, which products would be the best to remove the Scratches I have in my paint, other than SSR2.5 which did an o.k. job, just not enough.

* Autoglym Paint Renovator



* Meguiars ScratchX



* Menzerna Power Gloss - for heavy scatches (I am using a PC, any breakdown problems here?)



* 3m Perfect-It III Rubbing compound



* Meguiars #83 DACP



Thoughts on Each?

Any problems others have had with Any of these products?



I believe that one of these products alone, or in conjunction with another, should take Out the Scratches. I want the best products to rid my vechicle of scratches, not cover them.

I'm still in the learning process, and I've done Plenty of searches. I just don't want to have to do the complete trial and error thing, it gets very expensive. Fun, but expensive.

Depends on how deep the scratches are. You're not going to rid yourself of them if they go through the clear and into the paint without bringing the paint around it down to that level. Does that make sense? You would have to wetsand to level it out and that could very well compromise your clearcoat, and even color coat if the scratch is very deep. Read the article on here about touch up painting. The PC is not going to remove deep scratches.
 
Goose- yeah, try the 4" pads. Of the more aggressive product you asked abut I've only used the PI-III RC. It isn't all that aggressive, but it is about as far as *I* go with a PC. Some stuff is just beyond PCing.

Note that, generally, if you're not removing the marring you're not removing all that much clear. Whether you do it *efficiently* or not, removing the marring means taking the surrounding clear down to the level of the "scratch" (i.e., doing it *effectively*). And often that *would* mean taking off more clear than you should. Often it's best to make *some* improvement and then say "good enough".

Thanks guys. I guess I'll try the 4"pads first with the SSR. Then I think that I'll try to get some of the 3M stuff if no improvement is seen.

All tho "Good Enough" with the PC is soon, I think. It's better than it was, tho I could spend countless hours on the car, It's a garage queen, and -Rarely- driven. I just want to *UP* my skill level so that If I run across a situation on someone else's car that I'm getting paid to do, I won't be *stuck* with a loss of words and/or product.

Note than it's even more important to *not* mess up a customer's car. There are times where you have to be right up front with the "this is too serious to fix lest I remove too much clear" type of comments so they don't have unrealistic expectations.



Oh, and see if somebody who's used both products can compare the SSR 2.5 with the 05933 RC. No point in buying virtually identical products.



You could also look into the Hi-Temp products from TOL . Their aggressive products can be used with a PC (as opposed to being "rotary only").
 
Also,



" All Sonus SFX 4" Spot Pads require a 3.5" to 3.75" backing plate. Pad speed in excess of 750 RPM is not recommended without proper training. "



Where do I find a backing plate this small? Autopia Does Not sell one that I see. My DAS BP is over 5.5 inches and my SFX BP is almost 4.75 inches across...........



Also, with the PC, what speeds are safe with these smaller pads?
