Stripping old wax and sealant

Citrus wash gloss/clear is not much more expensive than dishwashing soap but can be used for more than just stripping the car down.

first off I am not a professional, I merely have read tons of posts on this and another detailing site. Some of the professionals have stated that dawn/palmolive is not neccessarily safe for your paint. I believe a product like Total Auto Wash by P21S is supposed to be able to remove wax/sealant and is safe for your paint. You can look into that product and see if its what you need. Using dawn once or twice a year on your car probably wont cause any damage but I personally prefer to use safe products.

Are you sure that would remove sealant/wax?

I am confused because on CG's website it says you can use it without removing previous sealant or wax and on other websites it says it's a good way to remove all sealant and waxes.

yes, if you mix it strong enough

See, this is taken from CG's website:

"Guaranteed to deliver a superior daily wash without stripping wax or sealants."

and this is taken from Detailed Image's website:

"One of our most versatile shampoos that can strip off previous coats of protection"

So, your saying is it's all based on the concentration? If so, what would it be?

2 caps per gallon for hand wash to remove all previous coats

What about if I want to snow foam?

CG citrus wash: 2oz per gallon as a paint cleaner (remove wax)

0.5 oz per gallon as car wash

works great!

I would still be concerned that even at the low concentration it would remove some of the protection on the car. Why risk it? I just use the Citrus Wash for removing and a regular soft wash for maintaining.

I used to use Dawn dish washing detergent to remove sealant and wax. Works great. But I only do it once or twice a year when I need to re-do a complete detailing work. In between, I use CG's Maxi Suds II.

Other members suggested (and that's what I am going to do from now on) to use CG's wash n clear at a higher concentration. Works just as well but at least you know CG's shampoo is made for cars, so no risk of any damage.

I ordered a 16 oz bottle of CG's wash n clear and that's all I am going to be using from now on: to remove sealant/wax and for the in between washes (no more Dawn, Maxi Suds, etc).
