Straight line technique vs circular motion?

I should come clean and say that I also use a DA for liquid wax. My last two waxes on our cars, I used DA with Colli 845 then hand applicator straight line for topping with 915.

I have also used a $35 Turtle Wax orbital as a "wax spreader" using the included bonnet and TWO Microfiber bonnets installed. Used this with Griots Best of Show and the result was great. A bit OT here but the Griots wax has some hiding capability and the big old cheap orbital allowed feeding the paint with minimal effort. I will definitely do this again on the SUV.

just wondering can i double coat meguairs gold class carnuba plus liquid wax, and how do I know if my paint is etching.?

Been using straight lines since I learned swirls have circular shapes. Larry from Ammo also explained why he used straight lines and it made sense to me

Sure. In fact two coats is ideal. I'd wait 1 hour between coats.

and how do I know if my paint is etching.?

Dull, lifeless areas that will not correct themselves with polish. By definition, an etch is a cut, so an etch is loss of material. Moreover, etch generally refers to an acidic process so the loss has occured in a very harmful way which can be irreversable. Most DD cars will have bird bomd and acid rain etchings. You'll know it when you see it. Sadly.

Not to be confused with clearcoat failure which is often the fault of the original spray job, underlying contaminants, bad prep, and, recently in Honda's case on some Civics, just simply not enough clearcoat.

Straight lines was much as possible to help eliminate circular-spider-webbing in paintwork, which are always more noticeable to the informed...

Had a man stop me in the Safeway parking lot and and tell me when we looked at his fairly new Black Mercedes paint, that the circular swirls and spider webbing was how it was supposed to look like after coming from the Dealership... Tsk-Tsk-Tsk... :(

I know - how sad...

So I showed him my Black Grand Cherokee 5-year old paint with OptiCoat Pro going on 3 years, perfectly clear, no swirls, etc., and just beautiful..

He has now joined the ranks of the Informed... :)
