"Stickiness" of backing pads

I have a Meguiar's backing pad, and was initially quite happy with it, but lately, it seems it's losing its stick (Only had it a year). So does anyone else have this problem? How about some of the other backing pads?

I have heard negative opinions on the Lake Country one, but how about the Coastal Tool one? (#18002 6" contour hook and loop pad) Seems that people like it, based on some comments on the PC group buy thread in Good Deals.

While I have not had a problem with my Meguiar's backing plate, I have heard there have been some difficulties with pads not staying in place. It was even mentioned that Meguiar's might be doing a redesign because of the problem. Might be worth a call to their customer service department.

That was me pumping the #18002 6" contour hook and loop pad.

It rocks! You will be glad you own it. Pads stick like glue to this gem. :xyxthumbs

They look a bit bigger than the Meguiar's backing pads. I think the Meguiar's is 5". The Coastal one looks to be almost 6". Any risk that one can accidentally touch the paint?

3M's Hook It rule!!!!

Too bad wheels, but at least you got a year out of it unlike my 1 day :) Is that one I sent you... wow that was a while ago!

Hey Paco, yeah, it was the one you sent me. Got good use out of it, but now the pads are starting to slide. Not sure if it's because I am getting more confident and using more pressure and moving the PC faster, but it's definitely slipping a bit.

Hmmm...I'll have to look into the 3M Hookit's too. I remember you mentioning that.

A year really isn't that bad and it sounds like you've been using it quite a bit.

Look at the hooks carefully, you'll probably see most of them have worn off. I really think you can't bear down on the PC with the W64DA because the hooks simply "break off" or "wear away".

The pads should be fine as mine the kept flying stick like cement now.

Caution: 3M's are not CHEAP that's for sure. Look at spending near 30 CDN for one. There two types, the lower profile one and the standard one. I have the standard and am happy. I like the added weight of the non lower profile. I have feeling it will help minimize vibration a bit.

I recently purchased a meguiars backing plate because the cma one I have is two stick. I do not like the meguiars backing pad, because I could spit on the plain (non-hook and loop) backing pad which came with my PC and the polishing pads would stick better. I purchased a Ferro backing pad from a local PBE. The Ferro is just right, imo, compared to the cma and megs.

I just got a new 3M slim profile backing plate and it's great. You have to really tug on it to get the Meguiars pads off. It was about 32 dollars canadian with all the taxes.
