Steering Wheel Cover

Boats are Fun
My dodge truck's steering wheel is starting to wear down. It has a tear in it, and there are parts that have just worn down to where it almost seems sticky. I can see the foam and such. So never the less, I need to do somthing about it. My father wants me to get a new steering wheel, but I was concerned about the airbag. Does it need to be changed, I know thats expensive. Im not sure how that stuff works, so if anyone could enlighten me on the subject. I would like a good steering wheel with no cover on it, but I am not prepared to do the whole airbag thing, I got gas to pay for.

Does anyone have any good covers for you wheel? I don't want the target kind which seem to double the size of the wheel. with all the padding and hard plastics and things on them. I just want a single layer cover, to cover the rips and worn spots, so it wont get worse, and won't feel as wierd on my hands. Somthing as stock looking as possible. If anyone has any links or names, that would be great.

Thanks

As far as I know, airbags are relatively easy to swap out if you're mechanically inclined. Replacement of the airbag is where it gets expensive.

If you're just wanting to just get a cover, this website looks like it sells some pretty nice ones.

you can search ebay for another steering wheel or car-parts.com. You don't need a new airbag all you have to do is remove the existing one carefully and slowly and put it on the one you get.

If you don't want change the steering wheel your other options would be to have it re-upholstered which I am having done on mine costs about 250USD.

Last solution is to use "wheelskin" steering wheel covers. They are very good quality and cost about 50USD. Ebay is the cheapest place to buy them.

EDIT: Yes, what audiboy said.

It seems like your best bet would probably be one of those Wheel Skins. It'll save you the trouble of disassembling the wheel and putting a new one on and if this one wears down, you can just get a new one for cheap, which would be a lot easier than getting another new steering wheel.

I was actually just looking into a cover from wheelskins. If you go to their website, there's a form you can fill out for samples of their leather, so you can see how thick it is, color match, etc. I've got a few right here. :)

call parts at a Dodge dealer to see what a new wheel cost.
Go to a leather installer and ask him to recoveer your steering wheel. In NY this cost about $75. Those over the counter skins don't look as nice when you install them yourself.

Yea I was afraid of that. Ill ask around, maybe ask the body shop in town, see if they can even get me a used one or somthing thats in good condition. The good thing about my Year of dodge, there is only one interior color.

Stay OEM if you can afford it....it will look better in the long run...

Tell me who does it for $75. I have contacted about 5 places in USA that re-upholster steering wheels and the cheapest I have found is $250+2way shipping. Please get me a number and/or email address I will be getting this done soon.
