Steel Wool on my Micro Fiber Towels

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
I do a lot Harley's for a local independent repair shop. This last detail on Saturday ( pic attached) I accidentally left a piece of 0000 steel wool that ATTACHED itself to one of my finishing towels, while it went into the washer. (crap) So I rewashed them all excluding the one that had the SW on it. I soaked that one over night in APC and soap, then inspected and it seems to be OK.

I also closely inspected the rest of the towels and there is no evidence of any SW on them (what a relief)

I guess my question is anyone have a better way to remove SW from MFT?

This is what they call a baggier (Ultra Glide)its a massive bike that took me 8 hours start to finish.

I hope you did not kill to many. I would be too afraid to use these on any paint or plastic inside or out. Steel Wool can scratch and we always tease guys who post cars that look like they have been cleaned with Brillo. You are too good for that.

How many did you kill? If you shoot me your address via PM I will send you a 4 paint safe MF and a Euro Shag no charge-I will even pay the shipping. They are new, but laundered as I launder all towels upon purchase and prior to use. I over did it a bit so they have been sitting in a clean sealed plastic tote box in the garage. I have too many towels (purchased in bulk) and perhaps I can all help make a small difference. It would suck to ruin a whole load of MF towels and have to replace them.

MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN OUT THE WASHER BEFORE YOU NEXT LAOD OF MF GETS WASHED OR YOUR WIFE DOES THE FAMILY LAUNDRY!

Watch for a Labor Day Sale

After thought-what about soaking them in Iron X????????????? Disolve the Iron form the towels??? Just don't use them on my car OK? LOL

That's a very nice offer but only one towel was effected by the SW, and after soaking and rewashing seems just fine to me.

I more than understand what SW can do on about any surface, 40 years of detailing and taught me that. This SW got trapped in this towel and I missed in going into the washer.

Again thanks for the offer but I don't need any more towels currently

Glad to hear the damage was not bad at all. Have a good week and Labor Day. I though a whole load got ruined.

I would personally throw away all of the towels contaminated in the wash.

Dave, your taking a big big chance on this if it was me I would say goodbye to them and get a new set of towels. Be safe then sorry someday down the road and also run the washer a few times to clean out what might be left in there.

I'm so tight it is ridiculous. I save aluminum cans to pick up extra pocket money and eat way too many meals off of Mickey D's dollar menu but those towels would have to disposed of at my place to make sure they never got mixed in with any good towels.

I think that throwing these towels out is hardly the answer. One towel was affected in this and upon inspection of all the towels in the load that was the only one ( as I posted originally) that had any evidence of SW. At the very least these would still be good for those jobs that are non-paint related.

Trust me in this, if I thought these where contaminated and would pose harm to any painted surface I wouldn't use them. That said I don't.

Thanks everyone for the concern and replies.

I hope so!Would be a bummer to have to trash all your towels!

You may want to inspect with a magnifying glass to catch anything your eyes could have missed.:inspector:

Thanks all I ordered up some of the Iron X yesterday (I've wanted some for a while now for other reasons) Will see just what comes of it and report back.

Cheers!
