steel wool on inside glass

The car I'm currently working on has ALOT of overspray on the rear window. It's an '88 Mustang GT Hatchback. I've used 0000 Steel wool on the outside of windows before, but I want to know if there's any difference using it on the inside. Because the defroster is not embedded in the glass, but on the inside surface. I was thinking that the steel wool shouldn't take off the defroster at all, so long as not too much pressure is used.:nixweiss

I know some people use it but with the defroster grid on the glass surface, I don't see the sense in taking a risk. Why not just use a MF and your fave glass cleaner?

The steel wool sounds a little risky on a car that old. Those defogger bands have sitting there for a long time and they are sure to be brittle....

I agree with trying glass cleaner and MF.....

What kind of overspray?.......

Modern automotive glass is more acrylic than glass, steel wool on automotive glass is a :nono

A good clay bar or lacquer thinner will remove the over spray. The lacquer thinner should be ok to use on the glass just be careful.

I agree with Andre that clay is a great choice to remove overspray. Just wipe "with" the heater element wires and use lots of lube.

well....after closer inspection and doing some history research on the car: It used to have tinting, the tinting was removed with a razor blade, the razor blade took off the defroster element and left just the brown lines in the glass.

Plus, I tried the clay bar, and when that didn't work....I went to work with the steel wool and a razor blade being careful around the "supposed" defroster grid (until I looked closer and found out it wasn't even there to begin with). The glass is factory original from an '88 Mustang GT, so I know it's still a straight glass....not too much acrilyc.
