static cling after zaino process

so yesterday i started the entire zaino process, dawn wash, clay, z7 wash, z5, z6,z2,z6,z2,z6,z2,z8. i noticed theres a built up of static cling. i've been using yellow costco microfiber to wipe off the zaino products and little yellow fibers are sticking to the paint. in the end i just wipe the panels in one direction and tried to wipe off all the fibers. is this static cling normal? what can i do about it?

It's normal to generate a static charge while polishing the car...just like when you rub a balloon on your clothes. There is some disagreement as to whether certain products generate more of a charge than others, and how to dissipate the charge (some say first washing will do that, one pro here suggests hooking the body of the car to a water pipe using jumper cables). I think your biggest problem from your description is the towels you are using. First off, many members here wouldn't consider that quality towel (Costco) suitable for paint, and better quality towels will not lint. I have some cheap yellow MF's that I got from Home Depot that I thought I would use on my home windows and mirrors, and they linted like crazy, even after multiple washings...I had to give up using them for that duty because they left tiny fibers (that I still have :( ) all over everything.

i got a quesion. why do use adawn as a car wash. i ve seen other say they use it but wondered why. whats the benefits to using dawn?
 
suppose to strip off all previous wax...the murano is new and picked up from the dealer two weeks ago. i don't know if they used anything on it, so i used dawn to strip everything and start off new. its also recommended as part of the zaino instructions.
 
Dawn is overrated as a surface cleanser. It won't get rid of most waxes or sealants. I don't recommend washing with it at all.



Polishing will get rid of any wax or sealer on the surface, as well products like Klasse AIO. There's also a few products dedicated to that specific purpose, like PrepSol. All are far better options than dish detergent.
 
I've never had any problems using Dawn prior to a complete detail, but everyone has their preferences. I just can't justify spending big bucks on something that I've never tried previously when my cheapo go-to product seems good enough. :nixweiss
 
Now that I put the effort in the initial Zaino steps, I can just apply a coat of Z2 every few weeks after washes right? When will there be a need to start fresh again with the dawn-clay-z7 etc again?

Yes, you can apply new coats of Z2 at any time, after washing.





You should never have to DAWN again, but it will not strip Z anyway. Instead, just lightly clay as needed, and reapply Z2 afterward. If you need to polish eventually (with an abrasive), you will have to re-Zaino the car. But, until you need to polish, like I said, all you have to do is clay whenever you feel the need and reapply polish to the area. Since Z layers, you can build multiple coats on the surface.

should i invest in a PC for the zaino products? I have a 96 maxima and 01 frontier as well and i need to do them in coming weeks. the frontier has been neglected and never clayed or waxed since it was purchased in 01. the maxima has had couple coats of zymol wax, but its been too long since the last application. both have swirls and scratches in the paint. i bought the zaino ZPC polish for this purpuse (i didn't use the ZPC on the murano since its brand new).



the zaino site said the zpc can be used by hand or machine. i also read that the rest of the zaino line like z5 and z2pro should be applied by hand. any advice?
 
Well, a PC would be a good investment, even though the only Zaino product that really benefits from its use is the new Zaino Fusion (ZPC). The PC will make restoration much easier on the neglected finishes (by hand would be tough work, but is possible). ZPC may or may not be strong enough to restore the older finish, and a stronger abrasive would be required to complete the job. The PC really helps if you need to use other abrasive swirl removers or polishes.



Yes, the Z polishes (Z2/Z5) are best applied by hand, as they do not benefit at all from machine application. They have no cleaning properties or abrasives, and machine application generally wastes more product than by hand.

thats probabaly the cause of my problem. i grabbed a new towel from the pack, rip off the tag and started using it when i was buffing and wiping. I will wash them this week for my next car. hopefully that should help.

I'm using microfiber for the first time with z6 and I too see the static problem. I never had

this problem with my cotten towels. Based on this experience, I don't think microfiber

is good for QD wipe out. Perhaps, that may be the reason why Zaino recommends cotton

towels for their products. I think I'm going back to cotton towels.
 
A pre-washed quality MF should be lint-free and free of static from machine drying if allowed to naturally discharge. If so the MF will not create any more surface static than a cotton containing towel.

Never use a MF or cotton towel straight from the dryer for any detailing cure. Always rotate MF stock and allow recently dried MF to demagnetize a few days prior to usage.
