Ssr's

i'm getting a porter cable for christmas and was wondering if i use ssr2 on my truck if i would need to go over it with ssr1? i'm going to be using a meguiars 8006 pad. also i noticed that it says on your website that the ssr's can be used on chrome. would they be okay to use on a chrome plated grill? i already have some blue pwc, so can it be used with the pc also? if so, should i use the 8006 or 9006 pad?

thanks for any info

For the SSR2 most people apply a second coat of polish after using the SSR's
As fro the PwC you can apply that using the 9006.
Don't know how well they work on chrome.

what do you mean by a second coat of polish? and which polish. pb's pro polish, pwc, any one of theese. just asking i ordered ssr 1 ssr 2 ssr 2.5 this will be the 1st trying'em.

I mostly use SSR1, although I do have SSR2.5, but only use it with hard jobs. After I apply the SSR and remove I go over agin with a pure polish(recently been using DC#2, but I just got some PwC to use instead) Some guys here after using SSR2 go over with SSR 1 to reomve anything missed and to give better shine before waxing or sealing.

It all depends on how bad your truck actually looks. I'm not familiar with the Meg's pads, but if you use a polishing pad with SSR2 you could move on to an LSP. However if you use a cutting pad and there is still swirls left behind (and most likely wouldn't be removed with SSR2, its not strong enough) then you would/could follow up with SSR1 or PP or PwC. Any will do with a polishing pad with the PC. I have went from SSR2.5 straight to a sealant with no probelm. It all depends if you are happy with the surface once you are done polishing. I've used the SSRs and PP on unfinished aluminum and yes it worked but I'm sticking with using it on the paint. I have also used PP (ou can use Pwc) on chrome and it works great. Just be sure to use a foam applicator or a MF towel or you run the risk of stratching the chrome.

It also depends on what color your car is. Darker cars will show "buffer haze" much worse than lighter cars. Buffer haze is basically a light dulling of the paint from the abrasives in the polish. You usually get this when you use a polish that's relatively abrasive. I know I experienced it with when I used a cutting pad with Menzerna IP on a dark blue car. So, I used Menzerna FP2 afterward which is similar to SSR1 to bring back the shine.

It's kind of like using sand paper. To get the smoothest finish you start with the most abrasive paper and then move up to finer papers.

You can use SSR1 or Blue PwC. Both may be overboard. If it were me I'd skip the 1 and use Blue PwC

Use the SSR1 only if you have too. Like if you have alot of fine scratches and cobbwebbs. I Use every full detail because its great at removing the light stuff, but before I started using it I just used a straight polish and then wax. Well I used a paint cleaner first to strip the old wax and other stuff off. If the paints in great shape after you wash and make sure the old wax is off go staright to the PwC.

wouldn't the pb's ssr's remove old wax ? i just bought three of them minus the ssr 3 hope to hell i know what i'm doing.

Yes they sure do. I would only use a paint cleaner before polishing is if the paint is heavily oxidized. I would do so because I wouldn't want my compounding pad to get all clogged up with oxidation and this wouldn't let the polish work to it's fullest capability.

so let's see if i have this right. if your paint is perfect use the blue pwc and then natty's. if you have light cobwebs(which i do) use ssr1 and then top with natty's(skip the blue pwc). is this correct? i would assume then if ssr1 doesn't remove the cobwebs to use ssr2 then go back to ssr1 and then natty's?
