SSRs and Dusting

I finally got to use my Poorboys this past weekend and all I can say is that I'm really impressed with their SSR lineup. Unfortunately, I do not have any pics because my digi cam is out of order.

I was able to use SSR1 and SSR2.5 on my friend's black Mistu Evo VIII. He brought the car to me unwashed for the whole winter, although it was hardly driven with only 1800 miles since Oct. Eventhough, it came to my driveway looking like it was actually driven in a rally.

I did the whole detail process for him: wash, clay, quick wash, SSRs, then Klasse twins.

Long story short, both he and I were very happy with the job I did. I took out almost 80% of the swirls on a black car, which I am very proud of. I just have a few questions to ask.

When using SSR2.5, I'm not really sure if i was using enough product. I worked in small panels and did a first pass at speed 3. However, it seemed as if the product had already dried up and I really didn't work it in a lot. I then put the speed up at 5 and then worked it in more, but only until its started dusting like crazy. Is 2.5 supposed to dust that quickly or was I doing something wrong.

Another question, is there anyway I can reduce the dusting?? It made it a real pain to clean up the whole mess afterwards.

Any input would be appriciated. THANKS!

the reason for dusting is usually one of three:

a) using too much product

b) not using the product on a high enough speed...

c) misting or dampening the pad will dry out the solvents quicker

you said that you used it at #3 and then at #5 ...
there is only so much solvent to help spread and work the product in to the finish..if you dry up all the solvent working it @3 then there won't be enough lubricants left when you turn it up. Use it at #3 to spread the product and then work it at 5-5.5 until it disapears..there should be little to no dusting at all.:hippi

Thanks Steve,

I probably did the later. I might have worked it in too long at speed 3. I don't think I used too much of the product because I did the whole vehicle with less than an 1/8 of the bottle.

I didn't mist the pad too much. However, do you suggest a light mist on the pad for either SSR1 and 2.5??

I wouldn't.

Apply a light bead of the SSR on the pad......... kind of like you were drawing a "swirlie" from the outside perimeter of the pad to the center of the pad.

Then place the PC pad on the paint (don't turn on yet) and lightly spread the product over the area you inted to work.

Now, turn the PC on to 3, and go over the same area 1 time. (product is spread evenly, and the pad is primed )

Turn the PC on to 4.5 - 5 and work the product until it just starts to disappear.

Wipe the area clean with an MF towel and check your work. Repeat if necessary.
