SSR questions

Couple of questions that have come up from another thread that I wanted to throw out over here and get Steve's thoughts...

Heard that you recommend priming the pad with just the product itself, not water or QD, etc.? That's what I thought I remembered, and that's what I did, but the pads (edge 2k) sucked up a ridiculous amount of polish just to prime. Literally it must've taken a good ounce just to prime the pad. I put a circle of SSR on the pad, went to rub in with finger, and all I ended up with was a 1/2" wide circle of the pad primed. Surely I must be doing something wrong???

Also heard differing opinions on using SSR3 with the PC. Some have said that it's intended more for rotary. Thoughts? Need to pick up some 2.5 regardless, so if 3 is PC'able, I'll probably get that right away too in case 2.5 isn't enough.

I think you have it about right...an ounce might be a tad too much but not out of reality.....it should at the same time help the pad not suck in much more and you can always press the pad to the finish (while off) to squeeze a little bit more out of it.
SSR3 by PC ..a good discussion, some people can and some can't...for those of you who remember Cujo from a while back, he never had a problem using SSR3 with his PC...it should be used at speeds of 5.5-6 and that might make some people not comfortable, but if you do use SSR3 with a PC, use a polishing pad.
The PC just can't generate enough heat or speed to effectively breakdown the SSR3. I'm not saying that some of you can't but for the most part a cutting pad can cause more problems with hazing and marring with a PC.

Let me know if this answered your question:hippi
