SSR Help

Been out of car detailing for a while now as well as my car, kinda lost/forget what I need to do. So, I'm slowly getting back into it now since the summer is coming around. Anyway, after reading couple pages of threads, it seems that Poorboy SSR is something new I should get myself into. Basically in the past I've been using DACP top with AIO and some sealants and wax.

Now, with the new SSR, I'm considerin getting SSR2.5. Though, how should my steps be like if I want to use EX-P somewhere towards the end?

1. Clay

2. AIO? (Yellow Pad)

3. SSR2.5 x2 (Yellow Pad)

4. EX-P x2 (By hand)

5. Natty's Paste Wax or P21S? (By hand)

How does these steps look?

Thanks in advance!

AIO should be used after all SSR's and before VM, RMG and Yellow moose creme.

That's my opinion at least

AIO will remove VM and RMG and all thequalities that they provide

Here's what I would do with those steps:

1) Wash

2) Clay

3) Quick wash

4) SSR2.5 - however it really depends on the condition of you car's paint. Try SSR 2.5 with a light cutting pad (green propel) first and see where you have to go from there.

5) AIO - DO NOT use this with a yellow pad. It won't do anything except marr the paint. Use a finishing pad or a polishing pad.

6) EX-P

7) Natty's

Yea. I'm debating to weather go with SSR2.5 or 2.0. I haven't detail my car in almost a year (just been washing). So, I'm sure there is some work that needs to be done.

Where can I get a light cutting pad?

Thanks

I'd go with SSR 2.5 over SSR 2. I still haven't used my SSR 2. 2.5 will remove more defects than 2 and is still gentle enough that you may not need a lighter polish to remove induced marring. Clay then SSR 2.5 then AIO then EX-P then Natty's sounds like a plan for a nice shine.

Should I use Meguiar Yellow pad on SSR or cutting pad? It seems to be Yellow pad is enough..

If cutting pad is require, where can I acquire some cutting pads?

Thanks!

Jliao since you are in Thousand Oaks, call Patrick at Excel Detail. He is in Thousand Oaks and has Poorboys and a wide selection of pads. (805)341-9452. As far as the yellow pad is enough it should be for a one year old car. IMO you might not need SSR2.5 as it may be too strong. I would probably get both SSR1 and 2.5 so you can try to start with the least agressive combo possible.

The pad you use is dependent on the severity of the swirls/scratches/other marring you are trying to reduce or eliminate. It is good to have at least one of each type of pad (I have 3-4 of each kind of pad). I like the Sonus DAS pads and if you go with the Sonus, make sure it is the DAS (Dual Action System) pads and not the SFX. The SFX pads are not as high of quality in my opinion, and I think the DAS pads are just nicer to use.

People frequently recommend SSR2.5 as a primary polish and while it can be used as that, it is still fairly aggressive. The rule is to always use the least aggressive combination of pad and product first and work your way up the scale until you achieve the desired results. Unless you are on a tight budget, I recommend SSR1, SSR2, and SSR2.5.

I see. In that case, I'll probably just go with SSR 2.5 and 1. Start with 1 and see how it goes. Do you guys also recommend using SSR1 with cutting pad?

jetskie, thanks for the info! I'll definetly give Pat a call!

I use the green pad for lighter duty polishing, perhaps to remove marring caused by a cutting pad and a potent polish. I may also use it with a paint cleaner depending on the condition of the paint.

The blue pad is used with waxes, sealants, paint cleaners, glazes, and possibly very light polishes.
