Spring cleaning

Well, there are several sure signs of spring . . . birds flying north, warmer weather, and of course . . . detailing supplies returning to the garage :D

Now that the supplies are back up from the basement it's time for some spring cleaning! This year I stretched my spring clean over three days because I still have no job and therefore nothing to do. The detail started on Tuesday and ended today (Friday). Here's what happened . . .

Monday
  • Wash with Zymol Clear (trying to use it up so I can switch to PB's SS&S)
  • Wash wheels with Zymol Wheel Cleaner (good stuff if you haven't tried it yet)
  • Cleaned wheel wells & tires with Bleche White (also trying to use up)
  • Washing was assisted by my 1750 Psi power washer for dirtier areas
  • Clay with DP 4-in-1 in a spray bottle for lube (left over from my rinseless wash comparison)
  • Polish w/ Menzerna IP and white LC pad
  • Polish w/ Menzerna FPII and white LC pad
  • Pre-clean paint with Zymol HD-Cleanse
  • One coat of Zymol Vintage (second coat coming soon) applied bare handed
  • Exterior plastic protected with Plexus
  • Top washed & protected with Ragg Topp vinyl kit
  • Tires dressed with Megs High Gloss Endurance Gel

Thursday
  • QD'ed car with PB's S&W
  • Vacuumed
  • Deep cleaned carpets with LGCM and Folex
  • Treated all vinyl & plastic with 303
  • Cleaned glass with Megs NXT glass cleaner

Friday
  • Cleaned leather with Zymol leather cleaner
  • Conditioned leather with Zymol Leather Conditioner
  • Protected clear plastics with Plexus
  • Cleaned underside of convertible top with Megs Interior QD
The engine was cleaned a couple of weeks ago with Megs Safe D-Greaser and protected with CD2. So, I thought I would throw in a picture of that as well. Also, I applied Wheel Wax to the wheels a couple weeks back. Here's the finished product:

looks really good. It's too bad you cant take off the front plate, it really breaks up the front of the car. Engine bay looks stellar.

You posted just after I went out to do a little detailing. It certainly is pertinent posting. Spring is practically sprung every where but here in Fairbanks. High of 29 today.

Anyhow this is what I think. Nice to see the supplies back where they need to be. In the garage and on the car. It appears that your vehicle is shimmering. Maybe smoldering. What ever...It looks Hot!!

I am jealous of anyone that can sit in a vehicle such as yours!!!

Although everything looks very nice the stand out picture of the bunch is your engine detail. I seldom do engines but can tell a good job when I see one.

If I can find some time I will be doing some spring cleaning myself. Thats one beautiful ride you got there. Nice job!

Thanks for all the positive feedback! I really appreciate it. I'm always looking for constructive criticism.

Well . . . I guess spring has to come even in Alaska eventually. It just takes a little longer to get there. Eventually, you'll be complaining that the sun won't go down.

Yes, unfortunately Massachusetts requires all cars to have a plate in front and on the back. I know people who don't put one on the front, but it makes it a PITA to pass annual state vehicle inspection and it's a hefty fine if you get pulled over.

Yes, spring is here. Your car looks great! I would agree that the wrinkled front plate takes away from the look of the car.

looks great! what year is it ?
It's a 2004. 2005 cars were exactly the same. This year for 2006 they changed the headrests, lightly changed the interior, changed the wheels, and added traction control.

Yes, I had a bit of an "oops" a/k/a accident which wrinkled the plate. They were pretty dirty before then and I actually had ordered new plates two years ago and they still haven't shown up.

so your has the 8000 rpm redline, i've sat in an older one with 9000 redline but the guy shifted at 8500

Be happy that you got a 2004 (although to be honest, I think my 2000 is still the pick of the litter. When they went to the 2.2L 8k rpm redline, I wasn't terribly thrilled). The seat modifications (headrests) on the 2005's are hideous.

Very nice. Nice work on the engine bay, looks brand new. :)

When it comes right down to it, I think it's probably a good thing I don't fit in the S2K. Since if I did, then I might have to have one. :p

Well, just so you guys know after I spent all that time detailing the car some jerk backed into my front bumper. The car was parked on the street in front of my friend's place while we were out for the evening and when I came back I noticed the paint on one side of the front bumper was all cracked and flaking off. Someone must have whacked it pretty good. Of course the retard who can't manage to drive properly did not leave a note.

Talk about a track car! I took a teen driving course this weekend and the experts were coursing in S2000's.

Silver S2000's are a dime a doze, but ones that look like that are one in a million. Good job!

Little late getting here. I finally get to see the latest detail of your car. Very well done indeed. Let me know how you progress with Vintage. It is a dynamic wax!

Thanks again guys for all the positive responses. The car is back from the body shop after some jerk backed into my bumper (didn't leave a note either). Looks like nothing ever happened except my wallet is a couple hundred bucks lighter. The body shop also marred the crap out of the paint when they washed the car. So, I'm going to have to polish the car again.
