Spray & Wipe usage

Would it be safer, in terms of avoiding poteltial marring and swirling, to use waffle weaves rather than plush microfibers with Spray & Wipe?
It seems like there has been some discussion on the WW, plush for S&W before.
While I'm not really sure that a definite answer was arrived at, I do personally think the plush terry MF's would tend to keep the dirt away from the paint surface a little better. They are what I use.
This may start another discussion.:)

I've used both WW and mega plush MF's with absolutely no discernable marring (except that one time last winter before I knew how to use S&W, salt doesn't dissolve in S&W).

Sounds like you have the salt problem handled, but anyway, what I do is go to the DIY spray wash and wash the worst of the crud off before I start with the S&W. Seems to work pretty good.

No spray and Wipe doesn't but Bug Squash does:)

Steve: Do you mean Bug Squash will dissolve salt or do you mean Bug Squash will mar with a WW?

Charles

Sorry ...yes, it disolves the salt and loosens the sand from winter driving...

tomd333, the reason your paint feels so good after using S&W is because since it cleans (safely not removing wax) it often takes the wash residue you might get after drying. In a way, your getting the natural state.

I can't imagine that being such a good cleaner that S&W will not remove LSPs... I've got a gallon of the stuff and love it - I'm interested in using it more frequently but not too frequently if it does remove LSPs.

What do you guys say? Does it remove or not remove LSP's?

:help:

Woah thread back from the dead! I haven't found it to negatively affect sealants, but IDK what it does to carnauba. Many car washes clean well and don't jeopardize the LSP, I think it more depends on the methods/chemicals used for the cleaning. I use S&W fairly frequently, and I could see it affecting the LSP if there isn't enough S&W on the surface to lubricate/pick up dirt, which would result in abrasive action and would remove LSP.

I'm on my second gallon, but I plan on using it sparingly now as I just got Optimum No Rinse and Shine which can also be used as a QD/Cleaner (not trying to jack thread). I really want to save my S&W for times when it really matters, I can't justify buying a 5 gallon yet, that would just make me use it even more!!!!!!

While I don't buy the 5 gallon jugs, I have easily used 5 gallon of the stuff.
100% of my winter washes are with S&W anymore. If the vehicle isn't too caked with crud, I just use the S&W. If it's bad, I go to either a DIY spray wash or a touchless drive through then come home and finish it with the S&W in the garage.
Probably half of my good weather washes are now S&W because of the ease and speed. I still like to do a bucket wash occasionally to get the nooks and crannies flushed out that the S&W doesn't get to.
I really don't think it hurts your LSP, but I apply more about every 4 to 6 weeks so I can't really say. In that length of time, it doesn't seem to be a problem.

I also used QEW for quite some time and felt it did a good job but wasn't as convenient for me as the S&W. I haven't tried the Optimum and most likely won't.

Thanks for the replies. I typically try to wash my vehicles every weekend and use S&W to make sure there is no soap scum left over. What I've been thinking about doing is using S&W in between washes and QD them also. That led me to wonder whether my LSP's would be effected, or to what extent by the increased use of S&W.

Regarding winter washes, when I can make it to a DIY sprayer-place, I had been using S&W and/or Bug Squash as a pre-soak but recently found the Eagle 1 Car Wash in a Bottle and have been using it. Steps-wet down surface, spray Eagle 1 stuff on it, then lightly spray with water. Soap foam forms and loosens the dirt and krud pretty well. I continue spraying until the soap foaming is over and it seems like the majority of the dirt and krud is washed away. I then go to my S&W to finish cleaning.

This combination works well for me, not to mention it gives a better bang for the buck... the Eagle 1 stuff is pretty cheap and seems to work well (word of warning regarding this Eagle 1 stuff - it is pretty concentrated so if you don't rinse it well you have some pretty bad soap scum left on the surface).

Thanks to all the informative posts here I recently purchased a gallon. As others have said it works extremely well and is so easy to use that there's simply no excuse for a dusty car anymore.

BTW I ordered several products from various vendors on the same day. Poor Boy's got here two days later......I'm still waiting on the rest :whistling

I also recommend picking up a California Duster. I just got one of these and used it last night to remove a layer of dust over my just washed car and this morning it looked like I just washed it again.

Ordering a five gallon jug of S&W is a no brainer for me. It is a terrific product that I use daily. Even when washing the vehicle with SS&S or QEW. I may be over using it but the truck alwasy looks good. Cannot be happier with a product.

The new waffel weave foam core towels is fast becoming a favorite of mine for S&W useage as well as S&W.

As far as the expense is concerned. It is pay Steve now or pay Steve later. I chose to spend the money on the five gallon so as to not skimp when I use it on application. Helps with the cleaning and also helps maintain a good finish when I do not skimp because the bottle is almost out.

Would you believe the one I bought in 1996 is still doing it's job well? Amazing product!
