Spray & Wipe( Scratch)?

Just wondering how this product does not lightly scratch. I have a 04 Black Blue Pearl TL my 1st Black car. So light scratching drives me crazy. My thinking is I rather wash it than try something that will scratch the paint. I like the poorboys New wash and the S&G and rim cleaner very good.

yea, i hear ya. i dont know how everyone spray wipes their car when it has dirt on it. If my car has dust on it, i usually just wash it. Id be scared of scratching it.
 
I use spray and wipe on a dark green metallic bmw all the time with no scratching that I can attribute to spray and wipe. It's not a black car but it's very dark and light scratches show a lot.

It's such a big time saver, I'd recommend you buy a bottle and try it out on an easily buffable area until you're comfortable. It's not that expensive and if you get scratches you can stop using it. But I predict you'll like it and buy more. If you decide to stop using it, I'm sure a number of folks here will take it off your hands in the swap meet forum. :D

Boy that reads like a sales pitch - it's not intended to be. It's just a good product that I think will work for you if you are inclined to try it. I gather from your post it's something you are considering.

Do you guys use S&W in these conditions:

- Winter: salt, grime, splatter.

- After it rains?

I think some common sense applies -If you have chunks of mud, break out the hose & buckets.

I know a lot of mobile deailers use S&W. But... if you're planning to polish after, the light marring/scratching isn't that big of a deal because you're going to polish them out right away.

The big deal is when you're trying to maintain your surface and want to keep it as scratch & marr free as possible. Is S&W something that you could use all of the time and really not expose yourself to any more marring/light scratching than your going to get from a traditional wash?
 
we have a midnight blue Durango and I use S&W on it all the time. I use S&W with a good MF for light dirt, after rain storms(unless that takes me off road :naughty ), and most winter conditions. I generally do not use S&W when there is caked on grime, mud, etc or the vehicle obviously requires a full wash not a quick sprucing up. No additional scratches.
 
The winter salt etc. causes the most trouble when trying to maintain a scratch free/swirl free finish. I get some marring even when using a good car wash soap and a new wash mit. S&W works in almost all cases except the extreme caked on mud and salt.
I think S&W secret is twofold:
1. Its ability to disolve dirt and its lubricity
2. A quality Micro Fiber that actually pulls the disolved dirt into the fibers.
After misting S&W on a panel or two, I take a plush 16 x 16 MF folded in fourths and very gently wipe off the dirt. If it is extremely dirty it might take turning the towel a couple times per panel. On a SUV it might take me 2 -3 MF's using all available surfaces. It is interesting that when I look at the towel, the dirt doesn't appear to be on the surface for actually sucked into the fibers of the towel.
I have gotten less scratching/swirls/cobwebs using S&W than by traditional washes every few days to a week.

Hey how do you use the SW and how many MF and do finish up with a detail spray? I Like(love) the products Steve has, the SW is a mental thing for me.

I have a Dark Green '04 TL and have used S&W now for more than 6 months (on this car) and have no swirls.

Good technique and good clean MF towels (I use 5 or 6 each cleaning) and you will be fine
 
I was skeptical also, but after hearing such good things, I finally bought some to try. It is awesome. I don't use it for heavy dirt nor do I think it is intended for that. But light dirt/dust this stuff is a no brainer. It really makes sense how it works if you think about it for a minute. MF's have a negative charge so they "attract" positively charged things. This S&W must have a or change it to a positive and then it gets "sucked" into the MFs. It also is very slick so it lays down a very smooth finish. Plus you do detail cars don't you? If you have any minor scratches don't you think you could trust your ability to get them out? I'm also quite fond of Adam's Detail Spray which is very similar but may not have quite the cleaning ability. Go for it man! You only live once :dj
 
Spray and wipe and a couple of quality MF's are the way to go. I have a 69 GTO Judge (just like my name..lol) and I use spray and wipe all the time. I have been caught in rain storms and have had the normal road grime on the car and have never had any problems with scrathing the car...and I am a fanatic when it comes to this car. I will need to take a picture with the trophys in front of the car to prove my fanatical traits.. lol

Winter salt and heavy grime and deposits, yes wash the car but for the normal stuff.... That is what Steve created it for.

The proof is in the pictures.. A close up of my quarter panel is a good indicator of how well it works.

I use spray and wipe when I get to a show and I "ALWAYS" drive it to and from.
 
I've had absolutely zero marring problems. I believe that's due to S & W's high lubricity. It did a wonderful job on both my Taurus and my dad's Sebring, haven't tried it on the CRX, but that car is perpetually primered, so a hose is all it really needs. I would highly suggest picking up a bottle, I believe that if you order from the Poorboy's site, you get a free bottle with a 3-pack of MF's. It's worth ordering, Poorboy's has nice MFs too, so you'll have everything you need.
 
I started using S&W last month and I just love this product! Doesn't scratch and saves me so much time. My 16 oz bottle got used up pretty quick so I ordered a gallon which has just arrived.

If the car is too dirty and the weather is cold I hose it down first then use S&W before carefully wiping dry with a waffle weave.

If you have used a 16oz bottle in one month then you are either cleaning about 20 or more cars in that month or using way too much on your car.

Honestly all you need is about 2 misty sprays per panel. I use one MF that I prime with a little SW first and then I use that to smear the misty spray on the panel. I then use another MF for removing/drying. The more you use of it the more it ends soaked up in the MF and not on the car. Try it the way I mentioned and I promise you that you will be surprised at how far it spreads and how much better it works unless you already are and it is because you have gone through 20 or more cars.

I don't know about this.. Wouldn't this mean that if the bottle would lose its effectiveness whenever you walk across carpet or do anything that builds up charge that could potentially zap s&w?

FWIW, I don't use it as a QD. I use it to clean my vehicles when they are, IMO, too dirty for a QD.
A very common use is to either go through a touchless wash or spray off the heavy crud at a DIY spray wash, then go over the vehicle with S&W in the garage at home. The film that most touchless washes leave is easy for the S&W to remove and the vehicles look great. In the winter season, that is the only way I can clean my vehicles. Works for me.:)

Another thing to remember is that you spray and WIPE...Don't rub back and forth or in a circular motion, gently wipe in one direction only. If you follow the directions and use a few towels turning them as they get dirty, you'll be fine. Same thing goes for QEW. I have a dark blue metallic paint on my Maxx that looks black until the sun hits it. I havent had any marring or scratching from the S&W or QEW.
