Spotting when wet... any ideas?

I notice that when i'm washing my car, the water doesn't seem to sheet cleanly. Instead, several spots seem to develop as the water is run off of the car.

I have ProII polymer sealant on the car so i'm not expecting to see a lot of beading and am not worried about that.

I'd describe the effect like water vs. oil... but it's not oily. Another idea is that the sealant has deteriorated in spots, but it's only been a couple of weeks. Prior to the application though, i did an isopropyl alcohol wash to get rid of some gummy residue and to clean the old sealant prior to reapplying. I did a full wash after prior to using a swirl eliminator and then the sealant. Could it be that i didn't get all the alcohol off which corrupted the bonding of the sealant?

Could it be water spots? When the car is dryed, there's no evidence of spotting. Visually the car is perfect...

Any ideas?

Thanks.

It sounds like the sealent is fading in some areas faster than others. Are you talking about the front bumper or fender wells, those areas take the most abuse when the car is on the road.

No, all over. It's most noticable on the hood and trunklid.

I think you're right. At first i thought it was water spots but it looks more like flat, unprotected paint.

Do you think it'll be safe to just apply a coat of S100 without stripping everything again?

If i strip the car, that'll be 3 times this month... i did it the last time because there was sheeting and no beading (i didn't know this was common with polymers). Too much?

thx

Of course it's safe. I used to re-polish my Saturn every two weeks at least, sometimes once a week, what a time consuming act in vain.

Just make sure the car is as clean as it can be then re-layer some more wax. Most people polish to remove swirls, not to prep for another coat of wax. Certian polymers have as much protection as others but the sheet instead of beading.

I know for a fact that Klasse sheets and Zaino beads.

Kewl...

Actually, i forgot to tell my service people to NOT wash my car last time it was in.... and i have long stroking ridges all over the paint right now... so i'm gonna need to polish anyways.

(ok... they're just swirlies... but the car's black and they LOOK like huge scrapes and ridges to me... :p )

Car's going into storage for the winter in about a month and i haven't got my orbital yet... so my plan is just to make sure there's some protectant on it for now.... and then do a full detail once it's off the road!

thanks for the assist!

ok.. after all that posturing, i went out to wash my car, ready to try all kinds of things short of doing a full detail, and those spots?

can't find them. :nixweiss

must have been some kind of residue on the car... but for the life of me i have no idea where they may have come from?

neways... applied a coat of S100 and all's good now...

thx for the assist!
