Spot on new car

I saw on my car what looked to be bird droppings. I am not sure because it was small and it was all black (did not have any white in it like regular bird droppings). When I got home I used Z6 to take it off. THe stuff came off pretty easily. When I was done I noticed a spot on my paint that looked almost like tree sap or tar. I tried to put more Z6 on it and it did not work. Then I tried Goo Gone, and that did not work. Finally I washed the entire car and put more z6 on it and still no luck. I did a search, but could not find any answers. What can I do to get this off? My car is not even two weeks old, so I am very upset.
 
A clay bar or abrasive paint cleaner should do the trick! Something like the 3M SMR, or Meguiar's Fine Cut Cleaner or maybe Body Scrub will probably work fine as far as cleaners go. You might want to try the least abrasive products first then work up if none are working as desired. So, I'd start with clay, then move to the abrasives....but that's me.

If the sap dropping is more than a quarter inch in size, you might have to use Isopropyl Alcohol or Bug/Tar remover. Hopefully, it didn't etch your clearcoat.
 
I think I'd be a bit more cautious and try something minimally abrasive at the start. Something like a wax or PPCL applied with a quality terry or MF cloth or pad. Why drag out the artillery until we're sure its needed? Joe's pretty well established that solvents in and of themselves aren't going to do it.



Oh yeh, Joe, don't get too bummed out over a daily driver - adjust, that's life.

Ummm, I don't think so. Solvents WILL remove tar, it's just a matter of what kind of solvent it is. Try Dentatured Alcohol, it's a fairly good safe tar remover. Apply and let dwell for 3-5 minutes and don't let it dry on the surface. Reapply with alcohol as necessary to keep it wet until it's removed.

What? Didn't Joe say that the "stuff" came off easily with Z-6? If Joe was right and the original "stuff" was bird turd, what he's now looking at may be some etching of his clear - I suspect fresher finishes are probably more susceptible to this sort of thing.



Joe, why don't you try showroom's alcohol and if that doesn't do it, try my suggestion. Kindly let us know how you make out.
 
With spots like this I use 3M's Adhesive, Tar, and Wax remover. You can find it at WalMart and most auto parts stores. A little on a clean cloth or towel and that should do the trick.



That 3M stuff is a huge life saver for the times when you have weird stuff get on your car. Its safe for paint so no worries there.
 
When I got back from work I checked to see the spot and I noticed that it had all but dissapeared. I couldn't see all that well though because it downpoured here in NY and there were beads of water on my car. I am pretty sure it was bird droppings and not tar.



Later on though, I went outside and noticed another gift on the hood. This time I laid a wet cloth on it to dampen the dropping. Then I applyed Z6 and let it settle for a little. The dropping came off without any problems. This time there was not any etching of the clear coat.



This did put me over the top though. I immediately went to Auto Barn and picked up Meguairs QD (to keep in the trunk), Meguairs Gold Class Bug and Tar Remover, and Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner. I think I am going to return the paint cleaner and get Scratch X. Also, can I use the Meguairs QD if I have Zaino on the car?
