I have been driving my buddies nuts with this for the last hour.



Phone tricks amaze me, years back I learned if you pick up any phone and dial 958 the phones number is repeated. I have used that to find out what number im at so many times over the years.



Anyone else have phone tricks up your sleeve?
 
I just tried that 958 thing with my cell phone and it didn't work? I got the dreaded "Call cannot be completed as dialed" error.
 
Strange, works here? Has always worked no matter where I have tried it and I travel a lot.



It helps when your on an extension or you are trying to find a direct line when your on a multi line phone



Duh I just noticed you said cell phone, it wont work on a cell phone, the other thing works though, sorry for the confusion
 
I havent a clue how it works....... I am surprised the 958 thing isnt working for you guys, I really has worked for me anywhere in the US I have tried it
 
For displaying the person's own number to them when dialing they are probably just using an automated dialer. I used one of these in the past for emergency calling and it's pretty trivial to have it display any number you want when calling out.



The 958 thing probably only works with certain companies equipment.

Now, how is it that you get something like a payphone to right? I knew a long time ago, but have forgotten how to now.
 
Just an update: I have been messing with a friend for the last 24 hours with this thing and it is hilarious. I will usually do it every couple of hours when I have access to a computer. He lives with a guy I work with and he came into work today telling me my buddy is going nuts. Oh the fun you have created for me.

The verizon trick for that is dial 555 and then the last 4 digits of the phone you are on, hang up and it gives a a call back to check the line.



Im really shocked that the 958 thing doesnt work for you guys, I even had a coworker in Little Rock try it today while I was on the phone wth him it worked?



Please dont call 911.....
 
yeah, it gave me that last night



I haven't tried it again. thought maybe it got overloaded or it counts how many times an ip hits it or something and then blocks it.
 
Ok I finally got it to work... sort of.... The caller ID just says MY name and number, instead of the name I put into it. (on a land line)
 
Ooohhh haha... I don't know either then. I was hoping that it would display the name you put in (for that extra element of fun).
