I am thinking of ordering Zaino (Z1, Z2, Z5 and Z6), without having takled to anyone who has used it. I have read Sal's site backwards and forwards, but found little on the protection aspect of this product. I even emailed him and he answered, saying not to wax over it.

He seems concerned with the look and shine, more than than a long lasting, protective finish.

Can/should I wax over a synthtic polish like Zaino? (and with what?)

I'm fed up with the short timespan afforded by carnuba waxes alone, and not afraid of the time commitment to get the results I desire.

Even though Zaino (Sal) calls his products polishes, they are in reality protectants. Z2 and Z5 are free of any abrasives and essentially "cleansing" solvent-free. He does not call his Z2 and Z5 waxes because they are not waxes but polymer sealants. Zaino affords months of protect ( by numerous reports) and do not require a carnuaba topper for this function.

Do a search here at Autopia for Zaino. There are hundreds of threads about this and other worthwhile polymer sealants ( Klasse twins, Blackfire II, Platium, Autoglym, etc).:wavey
 
The problem with topping the Zaino is that the best fun with Zaino is layering the crap out of it and saying stuff like "Yeah, buddy. 247 layers." :D



If you top it, you can't do that since the new Z won't stick. If you Dawn it to get the Wax off, you, in theory, remove the Z.



I used to not believe that Dawn could stip off a poly sealant, but I'm becoming a believer.



Oh, and I should get my first shipment of Zaino (ZFX, Z3, Z6) today if UPS's site is accurate. I'll wait on putting it on since the S100 is still looking good. Really good. That non-clearcoat black of the Miata really gets deep and dark with it.



I'll probably S100 again. Take pictures if I can ever have sun on a wax day, and do the same for the Zaino.

In my defense, I did do a search, but after 2 full lunch-hours of reading thread about Zaino's shine... ;-)

As I'm new to the world of "Premium Class" protectants, I'm trying to gather all the info I can, and balance it against the hard facts of cost/benefit, and having to leave my baby outside all day, every day :-(
 
Zaino is one of the best products to use on an outdoor car. It is very durable, and if you use the whole system, washing and QDing does add slickness and gloss as does layering additional coats. It provides UV protection as well that your paint needs to protect against fading.



I would discourage using a carnuba "topper," but be your own judge and experiment a bit....if thats the kind of thing you are into. Zaino offers a reflective shine and looks as if the car is encoated in glass. It mimicks what a custom FRESH PAINT job would look like. Most carnubas contain some abrasives or solvents that will attack zaino's durability.....kind of a catch 22. If you are into the carnuba / oil look, there are products out there that will better suit your preferences. Usually, the tradeoff is a decrease in durability.



If you do use a topper, you can wait for it to wear off, Z7 wash, and rezaino, or use a dawn wash. In my experience, DAWN does not strip zaino. Sometimes it leaves a film that detracts waterbeading temporarily that could confuse one into thinking there is no more protection on the car.
