spit shined my own wax

Decided to have some fun this week-end.

First made my own wax like so many others on this forum.

Used 40% Megs #16, 20% P21S, 20% Natty's Blue and 20% Trade Secret (4 favourites) = Chutneywax;) .

Melted the wax in a jar sitting in boiling water and let it cool outside.

The wax looks like this :

I first thought to layer the wax using Megs #7 in between but after some negative advice on this forum I decided to try the conventional spit shining method (cool demeniralized water).

Process :

Chutneywax

Spit shine

Chutneywax

Buffed it off wit MF

Cured overnight

QD

Chutneywax

Spit shine

Chutneywax

Buffed it off with MF

Tried this process on the front of the car.

The wax went on more like NB and went off like #16. The front is dripping wet  and was darkened.

This is the result :

We had a beautiful morning today.

I wanted to but had nothing else to pour into. However it helps to take not too much on the foam pad.

Thanks for the nice comments.

chutney- Yeah, that turned out great! Nice that you got some pics in the cool sunset too.

So you decided not to use the #7 at all?

Come on, that's not wax, you poured baby oil on that car! Seriously, excellent results. That is a mean deep, wet gloss.

I didn't us #7. I wanted to see the result of the wax by itself. Maybe next time to see if there is a difference.

Looks amazing! Great looking job. Can someone specifically explain "spit shine" to me. Sorry for a noob question but I've read that term before and don't know specifically what the exact process is. Thanks gang.

Quoting Dave KG (I can't explain any better) :

"It's a method used to apply two layers of wax simultaneously, which wouldn't normally be possible... basicaly, a wax has solvents in it to make it "soft" and easy to apply to the paintwork, and these solvents remove some of the previous layers of wax applied. If the previous layer of wax was just applied, the solvents would remove all of it so just doing one layer of wax after the other would have no benefit which is why you are advised if planning on layering waxes to leave 24hrs between coats...

Spit shining aims to neutralise the solvents in the second layer of wax allowing a second layer to be put over the first right away without having to wait 24hrs. To so this, apply first layer to a panel and allow to haze. Mist the panel (without removing the residue or haze of the first layer) with a chilled quick detailer spray, ideally a carnauba one like Pinnacle Crystal Mist. Apply the second coat straight over the misted qd (before it dries) and work gently until you get the normal wax haze. The remove the residue."
