spider webs

True spiderwebbing is actually cracking of the film build and can't be removed by anything. If you mean just swirl marks there are various ways to correct the problem, try doing a search for many threads on that issue.

Welcome to the forum! :wavey

thx for the reply i thought they were the same thing

i see new cars a couple of months old with looks like spider webs but i guess they are swirls as they are too new to be cracking but sure look like spider webs in the sun

Here,s what a guy told me, does this sound correct?

They are two different things. Spider webs are those concentric circles of small scratches that emanate outward from a light source, such as the sun.

Swirl marks are generally linear, and look like a rainbow effect, caused by improper buffer use.

So, are swirl marks those tiny scratches that look concentric around a light source? They don't seem to be actually concentric, 'cause the circles move when you move your head. They always seem to center around the light.

From what I have read, what your talking about is a spot where it looks like the clearcoat is cracking. I had asked a while back what it was, and found out that the clearcoat is detaching from the paint. Yesterday I started to repair some chips in my paint, and decided to repair those spots aswell. Turns out that something got under the paint, and detached it from the primer. When the sun heats it enough, a small amount of water forms, and blisters the paint, cracking the clearcoat. Scraping down to the bare metal and re-layering "primer, color, clearcoat" seems to be the only way to fix it.

I don't think that's what's happening with what I'm talking about. 'Cause, I see them on just about every car I see.

This spiderwebbing issue has confused me some as well, despite reading about it in the past. What I take to be swirls and spiderwebs :

swirls: Short micro-scratches that form the typical concentric rings around the sun's reflections. Very fine.

spiderwebs: Longer micro-scratches that literally look like a spider laid a straight like of thread across the paint. Numerous marks like these can also form a rough ring around the sun's reflection. More noticable, deeper looking.

Is this right or wrong? :nixweiss

I have spiderwebs on the top of myy truck. When you see them you will know what they are. My paint cracked in little lines, and they look like a big spider web.

Look at your car in the sun. From different angles. You see little scratches at a certain angle. Those are swirls. They come from washing wrong, buffing with somthing that is not 100% cotton made in USA or MF.
