Speaking of glass, what about a windshield/glass treatment?

I have to say I've been a fan of Rainx as it's kinda cool to be driving along in a rain and have it stream right off the windshield - wipers or not. But I've also seen some youtubes suggesting that a spray wax is just as good. I'm thinking of giving Aquawax a trial.
What are your thoughts....cleaning alone or some kind of (exterior) treatment?
 
My experience with Rain-X has not been positive. It leaves a film on the glass that can gum up the wipers and cause chattering. I think that Aquapel is a much better product and lasts longer as well.

I've only tried LSPing side/rear glass and I didn't like how it turned out well enough to even *consider* doing my windshield. No. Way.

I too generally despite RainX, but the Crown Vic's previous owner applied it to the windshield and just reapplying it seems simpler than figuring out how to strip it off (without messing up the trim sealant on everything that surrounds it). If I did strip it off I'd use one of the newer Glass Sealants/coatings, but the RainX isn't as awful on that car as it was on the others I'd tried it on.

I'm curious which glass sealants/coatings people here like, primarily people who've tried a few and thus have a basis for comparison.
 
Our new car has the Optimum windshield coating but we havent driven it in the rain so I cant speak to its performance

I applied the Gtechniq glass coating to my windshield about 4.5 years ago and it has held up pretty well. It doesnt bead as nice as it used to, but at speed in the rain with the wipers off you can still tell there is something there.

I know RainX isnt the greatest, but Ive had success with the wiper fluid that contains RainX, using it on my truck (which is parked outside 24/7). I get nice beading without ever having to apply something. I dont notice any performance issues with the wipers (chattering, skipping, etc).
 
I tried Rain X, Auqapel, GTechniq G!, G5, Nanoskin Rain, OptiGlass and CarPro's Forte seems to last and work the best.
 
I have never had a problem with rainx but I have been using DP glass coating and it's working out great for me.

Naptha a.k.a. Zippo lighter fluid will take it right off.

I have used Rain X, AqualPel, G1/G2 and Optimum Glass Coating

RainX-OK performance, short lived. Application can be a PITA mostly to get off the residual.
Aqua Pel- Better performance than rain X easier application and removal
G1/G2 Best performance at lowest speed but durability less than 6 months
OPtimum Glass Coat- 2nd Best performer low speeds. Overall, best durability by over a year. My current go to coating. I have had it on my DD for 1.5 years and its still performing respectably.
 
Coatings are the only way to go. RainX isn't worth the hassle for the brief period it last for.
