I just purchased a 7336sp at Lowes. It came with a small spacer. At the risk of sounding like a complete imbecile, is this spacer necessary with a 6" backing plate? I appreciate any comments/advice, and my compliments on a great site.
a spacer? I don't know what your talking about. the lowe's PC comes with the machine, a pad in a sealed plastic baggy, a black non-velcro backing plate, a thin wrench looking tool, and some instructions. I dont think that there's anything else... got a picture by chance?
Neothin - Thanks for the prompt reply. The spacer is between 1/2" and 3/4" and hard but apparently not metal. No pictures-no camera, sorry. Was in the plastic bag with the wrench.
To the OP, I lost my spacer a long time ago, and have used many different backing plates without it. I've never experienced any detrimental effects because of it.
Yes, it is a spacer. It goes between the backing plate and PC body. It is necessary if your backing plate has larger rivets holding the pieces together as the rivets, etc. may be too tall and hit the internals of the PC. Without going outside, I seem to remember this being necessary with the sanding plate that comes with the 7336. Try putting that one on with & without the spacer. You should then see if/when it is necessary to use it.
Yeah I know what you talking about. That little washer its not metal type, its almost looks like a plastic(grayish color). You can get those reg washer at HD or Mom n Pop hwd store. I think its 3/8" size.
Man, I really do appreciate the input. Mjp3475, that helped a lot. Sorry for the delay in responding. Since I don't plan on using the sanding plate, I'll take your advice. Thanks again to everyone.
