Souveran Wax

Here's a question for you.

At aprrox £40.00 for a tub of this product in the UK, how many members have bought and used this product and genuinley been impressed with the results, compared to others that have bought and used it, and whilst not really being impressed with the performance, have convinced themselves otherwise based on having shelled out that amount of money on a Wax?

I bought it for $30 when pinnaclewax.com had a sale on it a while back. I was genuinely impressed by it. It is the wettest wax that I own. The big downside to it though is that after just 3-4 weeks the finish looks like it needs a reapplication. While that is no problem for me because I'll just either reapply or hit the car with some OCW, to some that may be a nuisance. I think Natty's Blue is a better choice though. it lasts longer (2 months-ish), has 90% of the looks, and costs $15. That's a compromise that appeals to me.

We all have different ways in justifying the enormous amounts of money we spend on our detailing products inorder to keep our beloved vehicles (and or our customers vehicles) in "Autopian" condition. To me, there's more than one answer to your question. And I'm quite sure there really isn't a "wrong" answer to your question, as we all have different wants-needs-expectations etc. For a carnauba junkie such as myself, Souveran is at the "Pinnacle" ( pun intended ) of my carnauba paste arsenal. It shares the spotlight with my other "go to" paste carnaubas (Natty's Blue,XXX Hardcore,Trade Secret,P21S,DP Max Wax & Meg's #26) for a number of reasons. When applied over a properly prepped surface, the amount of depth, gloss, reflectivity & wetness Souveran produces is simply stunning on my black paint. ( and other dark colors ) It's incredibley easy to use. Glides on even & effortlessly.........removes with a feather light touch. It doesn't dust. It also makes me feel good while using it because it smells so good. (lol) On the flip side........Durability & longevity are not it's strong suites. That aspect is really a non issue with me, for I wax about every 2 weeks in the warm weather. Being more of a "Show Car" wax, I don't expect it or any carnauba to last more than 6-8 weeks. In fact, for over 20+ years, I've never let a product last more more than 4 weeks before re applying/topping or stripping it inorder to change products. My passion for detailing draws me to my vehicle constantly. I can't keep my hands off it! (lol! characteristic of a Nuba Junkie! )

When it comes to cost......it's simple. While I'm not up to speed with the Euro/Dollar conversion, I can only speak in terms of cold-hard American cash. If you time your purchases correctly, you can save money buying Souveran on sale. But even at full price ($70.00) your "tub" of Souveran should last around 2 years. That's $35.00 per year. Short money! If you think about it......$35.00 is one night out at the Pub.......it could also be dinner for 2 for a night. Or think about it another way......If you get, let's say, 30 coats of Souveran from one "tub" ( I love that word! lol) at $70.00 a tub that equates to just $2.33 per coat. Here's where it pays off in the big picture. In 2000, I bought a new 2000 Honda Accord- EX V6. Being the detailing crazed maniac that I am, I kept my Honda in "Showroom condition". In October of 2004, I traded it in for a new truck. First off, Honda's hold their value, but I enhanced the value of my Honda through my detailing efforts. To make a long story short........I owed $1800.00 on it and got $12,000.00 for it from the Dealer when I traded it in! ( it had 75,000 miles on it, to boot!) So my $1,000.00 arsenal of detailing products truely paid off. So to me a $70.00 "tub" (there's that word again!) of Souveran, combined with my arsenal of "supplies" netted me over $10,000.00 in equity.

However......Even I must admit that paying $1500.00 for some of that Zymol stuff is completely nuts!! Spending $70.00????????? Hell Yeah!!!

used last week on black metallic over 2 layers P21s and wow = superb shine and wet look.

Just washed the cat this luchtime and so easy to wash and then gave another layer of Souvran and again very easy and quick and no mess to apply-we like it a lot and ok here in uk is expensive but it will last and worth it for black.

P21s is also good but not quite the finish.

BlkTac05 has expressed my sentiments to a tee. I purchased the souveran when it was on sale. Am home for about six months so I decided that the daughter's blue ford Focus and my black truck were going to get the treatment. In fact I put on three layers on the daughter's Focus. Using the spit shine method on two of the three layers. I am extemely pleased with the results.

Ease of use is probably the biggest factor for me. When I am home I work on the vehicles everyday. Durability is not a factor. Looks and shine are what I am looking for. Souveran delivers on that score.

Expensive...YES!! Does it produce great results...Yes!! Is it worth it? If compared to others like Natty's price......probably not. Yet, when I am putting it on my vehicle, it does help me want to do it. Again and again. That feeling alone, makes it worth it to me.

Since it is a lot of work doing the best possible prep to get a good shine. I find it nice to have a product that will go on very easy with no wait time. I get a look that will not be bested. Others compare but none, IMHO, are better in appearance once applied.

Many thanks for the replies.

I forget to mention in the original post that my vehicle is a Black BMW Mini Cooper and that the Souveran is the possible final purchase on my long list of detailing items to have to hand when my PC7424 arrives from Autopia later this week.

Based on opinions to date, and also from viewing other postings, I had already arrived at a short list of 2 between Natty's Blue and Souveran, it's justifying the expense that is the only problem with the Souveran at the moment!

I really like souveran...It IS my favorite nuba wax...I have found it looks great on just about every color and shade...I use it on my white cars to give it a nice deep contrasting look...I also love how easy it is to use....It is expensive, im not a natty's junkie, so this is my go to for a nuba wax....this and pinnacle sig....I would wait for a nice sale and then get it, its not leaps and bounds better then other nuba's it just gives a more sensual look, IMO...

I'd say go for the natty's blue. for 1/4 the cost your getting a more durable wax that has almost the same looks as souveran. Put that extra money towards something like P085RD to get that black Mini looking awesome :D

I use it and love it and really dont mind payng the price for it. Looks wise nothing has come close to it on my Black car. Nattys Blue and P21s come close, but neither seem to have that little bit extra the Souveran gives.

I tend to buy from the states when I see it cheap, which is why I have 4 jars at the moment!

I layer alternate layers of it and Nattys Blue to get the look I am happy with.

I had two coats of souveran on my car. It was beautiful deep wet shine should have stopped there. But I added a coat of Natty's Blue and my shine went to a light haze. Don't know if it is something I did or the Natty's was just not compatible. Anyway something went wrong.. I stick with the PS from now own.

I've never tried the Natty's so I can't help with that comparison. But I've used a lot of other LSPs and IMO nothing looks quite like Souveran. The last time I did the XJS I used P21S instead of the usual Souveran, and I positively hated how it looked. To me, after many years of seeing Souveran on that paint, the P21S was not only discernibly different but not even *close* to how I want that car to look.

If you don't care about the cost, then I'd certainly try it. But if you feel you have to justify the cost of *any* LSP I dunno if Souveran is a wise expenditure.

There is a difference between the looks Natty's Blue & Souveran produces. ( on my black sand pearl paint) Natty's Blue seems to be a slightly wetter looking wax allowing the metalic flakes to really "pop". Souveran produces a nice rich "glow" with plenty of depth, muting the metalic flakes. Both waxes produce crisp reflections & apply/remove with ease. Like Richt, I like to alternate layers of Souveran & Natty's Blue. In fact, I tend to top Natty's Blue with Souveran.

Souveran is the deepest, most liquid looking wax I have ever used. Considering you can get a good 50 applications per jar, the cost really isn't that bad in the end. Durability for me has actually been pretty good, easy 3 months of beading. The killer look lasts 4-6 weeks on a daily driver though.

A good alternative (and about 95% of the look) is Clearkote's Carnauba Moose Wax.

I know what you meanBlkTac05. The wife is getting up early(4a.m.) for Black Friday shopping spree tomorrow. Will have the Silverado in the garage soon after she leaves to get me some up and close personal time with the Black Shadow.

I have 4 jars at the moment!

Now, that's alot of wax!

I use it on my black Miata, and really do not appreciate the subtlies between Souveran and other 'boutique' waxes, like S100, Clearkote VM, P21S, Meg's #16, and a few others that I forget....

But, it is good, make no mistake about it. Just my eye, I suppose.

Agreed. My durability isn't as good as Scott's, but it's close during late Spring/Summer weather. CMW is also a favorite, but I think Trade Secret comes close to the mark of Souveran's look...95% wouldn't be out of line. However, it isn't "cheap" at $36/8oz. jar, but better :)

I just love my detailing arsenal!! Last weekend I put a coat of natty's blue on my black truck. As I stood back & admired my work when I was done ( let's admit it.....we all do the "stare". lol) I kept saying to myself..........Man I love this stuff. The same thing happened to me, again, this morning with Souveran. The words......." Un-Freak'n- Believable " kept coming out of my mouth. Souveran is truley amazing. Souveran topped over Natty's Blue is orgasmic!
