Soured on chat forums

My local trees have decided that it's pollen (or some such) dropping time. Since I have a black car, one night under the car port is all it takes to visibly cover my passat with this stuff, and it does not blow off (so much for the slipperyness of Klasse). As much as I enjoy washing and detailing my car, I cannot do it <em class='bbc'>every[/i] morning, but the look really bothers me.

So, being cheap, and seeking to avoid spending the cash on a real car cover, I was thinking of taking an old cotton flannel sheet and covering the car at night, merely to keep the pollen and dust off.

For this purpose, neither rain, nor sap, nor bird bombs are a concern. Just the pollen and dust. (BTW, I do get condesation on the roof, which is what really concerns me with this method, but the pollen/dust sticks to the entirety of the car.)

Good or Bad idea? Any real risks to my (darn near) pristine paint?

TIA

Can you find an old flannel sheet that is cut to match your exact car size and have a snug fit. I am afraid that a car cover that is not secure will flap around. This may, will marr the surface of your car.

I would just get a high quality Evolution 4 or similar car cover. A little more up front but saves a lot of aftermath problems with an old flannel sheet.

As some of you may know I have been dealing with plenty of "stuff" on other forums, and I am soured on intraction on the internet that being said I have been treated very well here on TID and wish everyone the best and will only post were I am paid sponsor from now on.

Bob, I dont have much time to look at other Forums, so I am not aware of what you are referring to. However, I have seen your posts here and they are always very nice, informative, great pictures and dialogue, and tend to teach me much.
I hope you don't leave TID and I dont know if you have any issues with them, but here is hoping all is well.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving, to you and your family !!!!

Hey Bob... I haven't seen or read any "ugliness", nasty comments, hate, rudeness or harsh sarcasm in this community. It's a good place and 99% of what you read are positive comments.

As the TID rules state, Personal Attacks will not be tolerated. Period.Da Rules!

I do not have a clue as to what has been going on, Bob. I hope you continue to post!

Hey- if you want a taste of some world-class bashing just try and tout the random orbital as a capable machine, or write a paper and not release in a timely manner...! :cursing:

I always enjoy your write-ups so at least keep me in mind!!

Sorry to hear about your problems on the other forums Bob. I can honestly say that I am glad you are here and I always look forward to seeing your work. :notworthy:

Bob, I also am not up on the latest, although I do monitor the other major forums. As most people know when I set up this forum, along with major help from Todd, the concept was simple. We were all more then familiar with the issues being painted on other forums. Todd has been banned from a couple of forums, some major, for not agreeing with the moderator, acting God or whoever. Anyone that has the privilidge of knowing this man, understands he speaks his mind and will not back down if he feels he is right. I have never seen him not have the facts to back up what he says. I am thrilled with our success here at TID to be open, educational, friendly, and above all else, for the people that really know how to take care of a car, SHARE their knowledge with those looking for the truth. While you and I have not spoke, I certainly count you as apart of the group that shares. I appreciate your contribution in this community and invite you or any member of this forum to call me at the office whenever you want, (800) 628-7596 I would love to speak with you some time. Keep up your excellent contributions and screw the rest of them.

It?s easier to just sit back and criticize rather than take the time / effort it takes to post write-ups or How-to?s. Ignore them, as was eluded to ?most of us appreciate your posts, even though we don?t say so

I have found myself visiting the "other" forums less and less over the past year and can completely understand where you are coming from, Bob, although I'm not familiar with your specific experience elsewhere. TID is my "home" now and for exactly the reasons Jack and others have related here. This place is world class and I hope you stay comfortable right here. We would lose a lot with anyone's departure from this site and I am most impressed with the mature professionalism at TID by all who participate.

Bob, I fully understand, from personal experience, why it just doesn?t seem worth it at times. Across the board there seems to be less and less professional detailers posting as their methods are often copied by those who then despise them.

I don?t know the specifics of your reasoning but I can assume that it is sound and just. Those who do? do. Those who cannot or don?t?. hate. It is the nature of the beast.

TID will continue to be a drama free zone, and while we don?t discourage civil disagreements (provided that there is no personal attacks and that the goal is an open sharing of information) I want this place to continue to be free of garbage. Through out the early infancy of this forum I believe we have done a good job of sharing truthful and useful information although there are some areas I think we could (and have) improved upon.

I hope this is just a break and we see you posting again soon. Feel free to give me a call anytime and keep the rotary turning!

Todd

That's why I like this forum. Informative, and no idiots putting down other people's ideas, opinions.

I for one am no expert by far, but if I post a pic or idea I like fair commentary good and bad, not just blatant attacks because I didn't do it the way someone thinks is right.

This really pisses me off. The whole reason I got into detailing on this level (paint correction) was because of "YOU" guys (Todd, Bob, Angelo, and others too). I guess I am the opposite of a lot of people because I look up to you guys. You guys really gave me the inspiration and motivation I needed. If it wasn't for your write ups and info I would probably have no clue what paint correction is and still be sitting with a swirled up black truck out front. People like that should give credit where credit is due. It makes no sense to me to do stuff like this. It only makes things worse and causes "drama" for everyone.

I just want to say THANKS , to all you guys, and I really mean that.

Hi Bob,,,
Glad to see you posting here...On a different note, where can I find one of those blue tarp looking things that you wash the car on? I want to bring the washing indoors for the winter...I am assuming the purpose of that contraption is to catch the water..

Thanks in advance and I always enjoy your posts...

I was call out because I defended a close detailer and friend ( THOOO1 ) and some out there are so jealous of anyone on some other place's and don"t even know the truth about the matter, On the post from Bob, you are always WELCOME to post my fellow member and detailer, one thing for sure we at TID will not put up with the games out there some folks play and just like like El Presidente has said ( Keep up your excellent contributions and screw the rest of them )......:StarWars:

Bob,

As an absolute novice and weekend detailer, I come here to get extremely valuable tips from people like you. If it wasn't for people like you, people like me would have no idea how to do a proper detail. I love this place and look at it as my second home!

Keep on posting:notworthy:
