I been wanting to pick up a water softener for a while now. Due to lack of funds and lack of wanting to spend $700+ for one. I just gave up on the whole idea and kept on rolling the way I have been for a while now. I do lot washes for dealer ships. Basically for those who don't know. It's when you spray down a car with just water and wipe it down with your drying cloth or sham. The most you can charge for this is $1.50 a car. So 30 cars is $45 or so and you do it in about an hour with another person behind you. Basically not that much money in doing this. It's boring as heck and a pain in the rear.







Anyways the point I wanted to get to is I found a new one on Craigslist for $100.00 :D it's a newer digital model from Kenmore. Fresh salt and filter. What do you guys think? It's a whole house 7+ people capacity!!
 
I would check out the Spot Free in line softener. It IS a softener and does a very good job of making hard, mineral laden water, much softer. This will greatly reduce your spotting. The good thing is, you can recharge it by running water softening salt through it in about 15 minutes.

I'm not sure you understand that a household water softener needs to be hooked up to AC power and water and drain lines to be able to regenerate...how would you do that in a mobile setup?

LOL! we get $150 for 30 cars and get them done in 20 min, 3x a week. glad i live in california.

:aww: That's pretty uncool of you to make fun of him. Good for you that you make more then he does, but is it necessary to rub it in his face?

sorry man, im competitive i guess. thanks for the crying smiley face though. next time ill say: there is more potential out there to charge higher rates. consider the cost of your supplies and level of your professionalism, how much do you really make per hour. divide the cost of your water softener over the hours you work and consider if its cost effective. elevate your game and try to make more money.
 
Anyways yeah the unit I picked up today is a Kenmore 175 ultrasoft. I really don't need it. I'm planning on using it 2 days a week. I'll just fill my tank and go. What salt are you guys using?
 
If your just spraying and wiping why not add a little spray wax from a volume supplier (blue coral, Car-brite, etc etc) would pretty much eliminate spots and make your job a ton easy because they contain drying agents.
 
Wow...that was kinda harsh. who cares you make $150 in 20 minutes. HE would probably rather make $45 an hour in FL, than move to CA where all those queers and tree huggers hang out and make more money.

how bout i spray wheel acid in your eyes, then stab you with my pad cleaner. then im goinna wet sand your eyelids off and m105 your face with the kbm. :Paypal:
 
Ok first you need to see how hard the water your using is. You can buy a cheap ppm meter for 20 bucks on ebay. Test the water and then see what you need to do. Water softeners will soften the water to a point. But if the water your using is already soft it might not make much difference, if that happens then a DI filter would then be your solution. Ro/di systems were designed for coral reef water systems. Its very slow and not what your looking for. It could be vice versa. The softener might improve dramatically if the water is hard enough.
