Sonus UDM Package

This spring I want to start doing paint correction but im still not confident enough to use the rotary, I need more time with it at work. So my question is will the PC and sonus products (or any others for that matter) get me through the medium to light correction jobs? The PC seems to have decent cutting power and I use it all the time. I know it would have a tough time with really bad paint jobs but I already know that, and I will get a rotary sometime down the road.

Don't waste your time with the UDM for correction. From reading many reviews, the FLEX DA machine is the closest DA you will come to performing any "correction". The newer UDM's are weak, re-labeled PC's.

I think the answer to your question is yes the PC will work if you are on a limited budget and doing moderate to light correction.

If your ultimate goal is a rotary, I would just get get a used PC including pads (probably available at a very good price from those moving up to a flex or rotary) and save your money for the rotary once you get comfortable with it rather than buying the pricey Flex DA.

What does that mean, that you are using a rotary on people's cars at work but you're not confident enough to try it on your own car?

I have only done a couple of sections on cars at work, and im supervised while doing to make sure I dont mess up. I know what im doing but I just need more practice. And besides most of the rotary work we do is with a polish so im basicly just practicing the technique. Please dont turn this into a thread about my skill I asked about a product.

Ok, I understand. I'm not sure I agree with "The PC seems to have decent cutting power" because hard clears like GM just laugh at it, but in the past year with the availability of compounds like M105 and small pads like PFW, perhaps you really can do timely defect correction with a PC. There is still the issue that it may require a lot more time to do a car with smaller pads, which is an issue in a professional setting.

Keep in mind the Flex is less "flexible" because of the fixed backing plate, so it's more difficult to use different sized pads.

There is also the G110 option which is a bit more powerful than the PC, although I'm not sure if they are still having reliability issues (of course the Flex is having some too).

As noted, the Flex is pricey. As I mentioned above, perhaps in the last year or so we've achieved a paradigm shift where it's possible to do correction with a PC without any disclaimers. What is it that you want to do in the spring? Quit your job and go on your own? Do side jobs? Friends and family?

I owned 2 UDM's that broke. Warranty made it good. But I purchased a FLEX 3401. WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE.... I highly reccommend the Flex!!!!!!!!!

Im hoping to quit my job at work because I get paid like crap and enjoy doing detailing on my own much much better, and they pay is great too. Most of the work is reserved for the weekends doing 2-4 cars, we started late last fall so I didnt get a chance to really pick a lot of people up. This spring however I will have a website and plenty of flyers to hand out. I think I will go with the flex just because it should be able to handle most jobs without too much trouble and my buisness partner and co-worker has zero experience with paint correction so having him starting on that will be nice, then perhaps move onto the rotary after a while(if I need it). Thanks everyone for the imput, any more comments please post.
