Sonus Pads & Menzerna?

Two questions regarding Sonus DAS pads.



1) I noticed my Sonus DAS orange pad is very very stiff, is there anything special I need to do it before its first use?



2) My car is black and badly swirled and I was going to start using IP with the Sonus orange pad. It says to follow up the orange pad with the green pad. Do i need to reapply IP after using the orange pad and do it over again with the green pad or do I just spray some QD on the green pad and go over the area I just did with the orange pad?:nixweiss

I usually start out with IP with a LC orange pad myself and then go straight to FP II with the LC white polishing pad. I don't know anything about Sonus pads, but if the green is a polishing pad, you should be o.k.
 
So then I dont really need to follow up the orange pad with the green pad? I can go straight to polishing with the blue Sonus pad and FPII?

Every pad has an intended purpose. The Sonus DAS Orange pad is designed to be a light cutting pad. When used with a cutting polish, it will remove moderate imperfections.



You should always follow a cutting pad with a polishing pad and a "swirl remover" or other light paint polish to restore full gloss. Depending on your technique, the polish you use, the machine you use the pad/polish on, your paint may take on a haze, dulling or hollograms. This is normal and is easily polished out with a fine pad and polish combo.



I do not recommend taking a cutting pad to your whole car unless the whole finish is trashed. The Orange cutting pad is designed to be used for more localized treatment. A better solution all together (IMHO) is the 4" spot pad. It does a much better job treating scratches and small boo-boos.

Thanks David! I think I will only use the orange pad on the hood and trunk and follow it up with the green pad. I do not have a 4" spot pad and I am in the middle of detailing right now. I will follow up with the FPII once I am done with the IP. If you have any more advice please let me know. I am new to detailing and this is my first attempt. Thanks again!
