Sonus Green clay

I need some help. I just purchased the Sonus Green clay and tried to open one of the packets to try out. I live in Los Angeles and the weather is a cool 70 degrees this morning, I tried to tear away the top of the plastic but the clay is very sticky and I losted more clay to the plastic that seems to be welded to plastic than I put in the palm of my hand. I also tried to put the package of clay under water to help.



Is there something I am doing wrong ? I don't have this problem with auto magic?

I too have noticed that the Sonus clay is very sticky and soft. Perhaps that's what helps make it so "gentle" on the paint? I didn't have the problem you had with the packaging but I have noticed that it breaks apart into small pieces much more than other clays I've used (Clay Magic, Mothers, Meguires). Maybe I'm using too much lubricant although I know it's better to use too much lubricant than too little.



Be sure there's no plastic wrapper still embedded in your clay. Otherwise, you could scratch your paint pretty severely! :scared:
 
Id guess its bad stuff and I;d try to get my money back.



Clay sholdn't fall apart like that.



If they won;t give you yur money back find someplace else to shop that values your business. Then i'd probably put the clay in the freezer and when it gets cold you culd freeze the clay and pull the plastic off. At least you could use it insted of throwing it away.

Wow, that's a little harsh. How about let's see what DavidB says first, and let him handle the situation accordingly like he always does. There's a reason for everything, it just has to be figured out.
 
Sorry but I didnt think it was harsh. He bought something that didnt work like it was supposed to and was looking for ideas. I just gave him one. Get your money back and go buy something else that works makes sinse to me.



What;s harsh about that? Why should this David guy he bought it from be treated any better than Auto zone or Advanced auto parts? If I buy something and it doesn;t work, I take it back and get my money back.



If they won;t give me my money back,, I just quit going to that store. I thought the customer was always right.



Thats also why we quit buying off brands and only by name brands now. When we had a Piggly Wiggly here in town before they closed it up, we tryed the off brand green beans and okra when we didnt have them growing in our garden. they tasted awful. So we quit buying them and only buy brands we've heard of. I never saw any of that Sonus brand in the stores like Advanced auto parts or Auto zone. Maybe pep boys has it, but the closest one in over 2 hours away.



anyway don't think i'm bein harsh. I'm just offering ideas to help a fellow out.
 
I guess that's the difference between you and I, because, if I have a problem with a product I have never used before, I would first try to figure out if the problem was me or the product. If it is the product, I would next determine if I got a defective product, and if in the end, it reallys is just a trash product, I would then look for a refund.



To reply to your comment about how David is any different than Auto Zone or Advanced, well...he's not, and I would proceed with the same course of action as stated above. That's just me though.



Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that your entire suggestion was harsh, just the part where he should get a refund without any explanation of what went wrong, and then to assume that Autopia wouldn't make sure he's taken care of. I am very pleased to say, I don't think any of this community's favorite vendors would treat a customer wrong. :xyxthumbs

Hmm.. I can't find AIO/SG, Poorboys, 303, 4*, 1Z etc at any of chain auto stores.. I guess their products must suck? I'm not saying that Sonus is as good as any of these products (I've never tried any of Sonus' products except for their pc pads), but there are the boutique shops that cater to auto detailing. The auto chain stores stock what they feel non-autopians recognize, whether it be turtle wax, megs, or blue corral. Some specialty vendors may elect not to diminish their brand name by mass marketing through the likes of autozone or pepboys. It's like saying, don't buy a Dell, cause Ive never seen it at bestbuy or compusa.



Just my $0.02, no flames intended, just a different point of view. :D

He shouldn't be treated any differently other than the fact that you won't find Barry Meguiar responding personally to you about Meguiar's product defects/problems, whereas I'm sure David will.

The Sonus green is a bit different from other clays, and the same characteristics that can make it stick to the plastic (and I've had this happen with other clays too) make it work the way it's supposed to. I've unwrapped mine in a hot garage and while it took a little doing, it's worth it IMO because of the unique nature of this clay.



I've used it quite a bit and I've never had it break unless I used it with a shampoo/water mix instead of with the Glyde lube. I use quite a bit of lube so I'm sorta :confused about it breaking up.



Heh heh gotta admit I don't go along with "the customer is always right", but I'm quite certain that David will take care of you. And while it shouldn't matter in this instance that he's the owner of this site, well, it's something worth knowing for various reasons ;)

I'd use some Clay lube but its much to expensive and I go through it like nothing.
 
I wonder if the whole "gentle clay" thing is gonna sorta gravitate towards using dedicated lube instead of shampoo mix. I ended up deciding to use the Glyde simply because it works better. Greater lubricity = less abrasion/chance of marring anyhow and that sorta plays into the reasons for using a gentle clay in the first place.

You could always dilute 1:1 w/ water for clay lube. I use Meguira's Last Touch diluter 1:1 or 1:2 and I use clay magic. Haven't had a need to try any other clay as I've got a few boxes of the clay. What was the real benefit exactly for this green clay?
