I have a PC and now want to order pads. I have decided on the Sonus Das pads and notice that Sonus offers a starter kit which includes the flex backing plate , two micro fiber bonnets and several pads (orange, green, etc) Would this be a proper choice to get started?

The starter kit is a great way to get started (that's what I bought), but I've never used the mf bonnets it comes with. Regardless, the discount you get for buying it all together practically gives you the bonnets for free. I started off with the kit and then ordered extra individual pads later.

Do a search of the pads you want to buy before hand . Make an informed decision before you buy.

What will the difference be between a 5" and a 6" backing plate? The excel kits comes with 7" polishing/finishing pads. As I remember reading, one should stick to the smaller size pads like 5" to 6" because it's more efficent with the PC. Is this correct?

I love my DAS pad, they rinse out very easy and produce an awesome finish.

I do however use a 6" backing plate with them though, just personal preference.
